Ellen Dillard performs one of the squad's many cheers rn order to excite the onlooking Jacket fans. Shout And Scream For Your Team The 1986-87 Varsity Football cheerleaders had one main goal this year - to be the best they could be. They accomplished this goal through dedication, hard work, cooperation, and determination. These ten girls devoted two hours of practice each moming of the summer to improve their technique. They attended the National Cheerleaders Association summer camp at Clemson University where they received top recognition as the NCA Spirit Award winner. The presentation of this award came at the completion of a four day workshop of training on cheerleading technique, cheers, chants, jumps, partner stunts, and pyramids. The cheerleaders placed first in the preliminary WANS competition and first runner up in the finals. They also captured a victory in the Cheerwine Cheer-off held at Anderson Mall. By winning the Regional l'lCA competition in Morgantoum, N.C., the squad qualified to compete at the National NCA competition which was held December 2 in Orlando, Florida. Along with the competitions, the cheerleaders were always ready to cheer their favorite team to victory. With much enthusiasm, they, along with the fans, kept the Hanna spirit alive. Besides the evenings spent at football games, the cheerleaders devoted many hours to painting signs and Homecoming decorations, making locker notes for coaches and players, and practicing for the pep rallies. The 1986-87 squad celebrates after winning the National Cheerleading Association Spi Award at Clemson University over the summer. 52!Sports
