Jackets Have Banner Year The 1986 Varsity Football Team led by Head Coach Harold Jones, finished the regular season with an 8-2 record overall and 6-O in the conference which gave them their first conference 1-AAA championship since 1980. Because the Jackets won the conference, they had the home field ad- vantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets hosted the J.L. Mann Patriots at District Five Stadium on Novem- ber 14. The two teams fought hard all night, but Mann missed an extra point al- lowing the Jackets to come away with a 21- 20 victory. ln the second round of playoffs the Jack- ets lost to the Carolina Trojans 20-6 on November 21 at Serene Stadium. Although the score did not show that the Jackets were on top, the student body and espe- cially each player felt deep pride in the team's performance. if 2.
