Mary Tolbert and Paula Clary attended a banquet while representing T.L. Hanna as delegates to Palmetto Girl's State. One of the biggest events of the summer was the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty on July fourth. Dave Stanley, who spoke to the student body concerning drug and alcohol abuse, grabbed the attention of many Hanna stu- dents. h Ww':! if What's The News? During the course of the 1986- 1987 year, many exciting events occured that will always remain deep in our minds. The anihilation of the space shuttle in January brought sorrow for all Americans, while the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty on July fourth restored the patriotism that is often forgotten in every day life. In November, many congressmen began to wind dovm their campaigns and anticipate the outcome of the November fourth elections. It was a surprise to many when Carroll Campbell was elected Crovemor of South Carolina, one of the few Republicans to hold that office. Another surprise came when the Democrats gained control of the Senate, thus making them the majority party in each house of Congress. At the end of November Dave Stanley, stepbrother of the late Elvis Presley, came to Hanna and spoke on Drug and Alcohol Abuse. His testamonies caught the attention of many students: some were so inspired that they attended his revivals held at Centerville Baptist Church. Perhaps one of the events which especially touched the hearts of Hanna students involved Ashley Waldrep, who helped in saving the life of a J.V. football player by using CPR. She was congratulated by Mayor Darwin Wright who proclaimed October 51 Ashley Waldrep Day here at Hanna. Ashley Waldrep was congratulated by May- or Darwin Wright for her outstanding skill in using CPR to save the life of a fellow stu- dent. Student Lrfe!5.'5
