It has recently been erected as a memorial to the many celebrated citlaens who once made the town their home, and it con- tains, as its most cherished possessions, momentos of their deeds and works. You enter the museum. Over a door at the right is an inscription reading, The Art Museum of Hanna. Youenter and gaxe about you. A varied assortment of exhibits meets your eyes. You begin at the left side and work your way slowly around until the doer is reached again. And you see the following interesting exhibits. 1. In a g I a s s case are a number of yellowed and worn sheets of news- paper. The heading is Advice to the Lovelorn by Polly Pepper. You read the answers to the foolish questions, and they are sensible answers, although over sentimental. The card over the case says, First series of the Polly Pepper 'Advice to the Lovelorn', which became the most famous syndicated newspaper article series in the world. Polly Pepper was Amelia Saylor. 2. A collection of silver and gold loving cups and medals of all descrip- tions meets your eye next. Their inscriptions vary from High running jump at state track meet, to Winner of Olympic Games, Greece. The card states simply, The trophies won by Norman Doll, world's greatest ftthlot . 3. Here is a helmet and badge with a number and the letters P.D. You wonde r why that is of importance and then you read the card above. It says, The badge and helmet of Kaye Rlnker Smithkowski, the first police- woman of her town. She did more to secure law and order in her district than any ten men and was a credit to her town and state. 4. In the next show case is a worn and dirty passport, and the name on it is that of Beverly Salisbury Van Heuson. The card states, Mrs. Van Heuson, the first woman to commute from America to Europe by the Great Northern Airway. She operated two candy stores, where she sold her famous fudge - - one m London and the other in New York, and spent the alternate days in each, traveling back and forth at night. 5. In the fifth c a s e is a beautiful photograph of a spring scene - --a A Visit To Ihe

meadow with willow tree and flowers in bloom. The card bear these words. By Janet Hundt Van Dyke, art photographer, who won the inter national medal of honor for the best photographic study of nature.” 6. In the sixth case is more old manuscript, in familiar handwriting, it is a poem, called, My Youth,'' and the author is Sharon Eichstaedt Riley. You read the first few stanxas and find it is beautiful but rather sad. The inscription reads, The first poem published by Mrs. Riley, the world famous poet, who in 1988 won the Nobel prise for her Inspiring poetry.” 7. And now you see a lovely statue. It is a mythological study: Pan playing his pipes as the animals listen. You look at it long and find new beauty in it eve ry moment. The card reads, One of the earlier works of Faye Rinker Goldstein, the famous sculptor.” 8. You find a strange collection next: a nose ring made of bone, a feather -tipped spear, and a woven grass basket, also a fountain pen, badly rust- ed, and an old spelling book. You look hastily at the sign and read the following: Mementos of Lucy Rosenbaum Schwltzcr, for many years missionary to the cannibal islands, where she did wonderful work among the Aborigines, teaching them reading, writing, and arithmetic, and how to prepare their food properly.” 9. The next case is Interesting. It contains a diver's suit of steel and his oxygen tank. There is a huge dent in the helmet. The card explains this a follows: The suit worn by R i c h a r d Lashua. the well-known deep-seadiver,whenhe rescued the men trapped on the Submarine 1313, during the storm of 1978. The dent in the helmet was caused by a blow from a whale.” 10. The case you approach now has a model of a tiny machine which seems to combine the qualities and abilities of all the machines you have ever seen before. It has knives, wheels, cogs, pulleys, screw drivers, all combined in one glorious whole. You look at the card to see what this machine does. You read, The Doeve rything, the invention made Judy Lee Marks Einstein famous. This machine washes, irons, scrubs, gets meals, washes dishes, gets the children off to school, tend the furnace, and doe s the marketing, all with very little cost. An attachment mows the lawn and hoes the garden. Another attachment automatically reaches out an arm and spanks little Willie when he drags the cat around by the tail. 11. And now you see a costume, old and faded but still beautiful. It is a velvet suit, with a plumed hat and a sword by its side. The inscription reads, The suit worn by Kathryn Kauchak Brenner, the famous Shake- spearean actress, when she first played Romeo and was acclaimed superior to Frankenstein, ' 12. This case is fascinating. It contains photographs and paintings of a beautiful woman of Hanna years ago. Her dresses, as well as the style of wearingher hair, seem old fashioned, but it is easy to see that she was extremely pleasing to look at. The card says, Pictures of Duchess Carol Mills St. Valentine, the celebrated beauty who was presented at the Court of St. James when she was nineteen and who married the Grand Duke.” 13. And now you are at the very last case. You see a red kerchief, a huge black hat turned up in front and bearing a skull and crossbones as an emblem, and a few pieces of gold lying near. Pirate belongings in this day and age? You read the card and are enlightened. It ways, The hat, kerchief, and lucky pieces of Edward Sommers, who as a result of read- ing too many wild tales of adventure, ran away to sea when he was a young man and became a pirate. He called himself Black Barnegat. After he had made his fortune, he gave most of it to the poor, thus exhone rating himself for his ril« deeds. He spent his remaining life writing adven ture stories for T.V, You have now seen the most famous room in the Hanna Museum. As you slowly leave the building, you marvel at the brilliance of the class of 1958, which numbered among its graduates these celebrities.
