Drama Drama provides great times The drama club did well in their production of A Thousand Clowns and all their other productions, such as the Oedipus Rex and a student video production of A Christmas Carol. The proceeds from these two productions were used for the students in the UIL OAP competition in March. A Mid- SUl'Tll'T1Gl' Nlgl'lt'S Dream WZS the Diane Crowell, Troy Augell, Jose Alvarez, Tanya Menice, Rachel Sanchez Melissa Parks Louie production performed in the Delgado. Below: Louie Delgado and Arron Melgares prepare set for next production competition. During the spring, the musical Grease was performed. Jan Slusher, drama club director said, It was great fun for everybody, and it got everybody involved. Tanya Menice, drama member said, Drama was very helpful to me, it helped me learn how to speak effectively in public. The drama club was divided into two groups, the Masqures and the Thespian Society. The officers for the Masquers were: Grand Director, Luis Delgado, Grand asst. Director, Rachel Sanchez, Grand Promoter, Tanya Menice, Grand House Manager, Belle Martinez, Grand Stage Manager, Casi Saldana. 94 Drama

H Speech members relax between events. Girls on the speech team take a break after a long day of competition. Compete at State and UIL This year's speech team did well at local and regional competitions with seven students qualifying for state. This was not surprising considering the many talented students on the team. Hanks students heard about the speech teams victories at UIL yet most didn't understand the work that went into these competitions. It takes many hours of practice to perfect their speech routines. Lynda Melanson, speech club sponsor, practiced with the students many hours, helping them refine their speeches and presentations. When the team went to Midland she went with them as a chaperon and provided moral support. Speech member Tanya Hamilton said This year has been more exciting since I joined the speech club. We work well as a team and admire each other as friends. I admire Ms. Melanson, she's my coach, teacher and friend. Speech 93 E rn 3 U' 2 cn ds O99 L!
