O They have to work as a team 3- or otherwise it doesn't work. Durkin didn't think that her 1 girls needed her experience, 6 she was a cheerleader at m Permian High School in Q- Odessa. They were very CD talented, she said. 1 Durkin felt that a U7 cheerleader's purpose was to get the crowd behind the team and be role-models for other students. In her opinion a cheerleader was someone who had courage and interest in athletics. They had to practice before, during and after school while maintaining good grades. Phyllis Harbin, B-Team cheerleading sponsor, believed that cheerleaders should lead the crowd in voicing enthusiasm and be models for that enthusiasm. The cheerleaders had a third period class together taught by Coach Angie Kennedy. During this class they learned new cheers, practiced, and learned about different sports for which they cheer. B-Team won first place in the Chamizal City-Wide competition, so they are successful and most of the time they were cooperative, Harbin said of her cheerleaders. Fresh manfB-Team cheerleaders 71
