S ln-between reading, writ- ing, and arithmetic, stu- dents had the opportunity to pursue their creative in- terests. Students enrolled in the arts to broaden their ho- rizons and to add more ex- citement to a school day. The art classes taught stu- dents to further their own artistic styles in areas of drawing, tempra, and water colors. Always with a high enrollment, art was a popu- lar class. Keeping the music of Bee- thoven and Mozart alive, or- chestra was a welcome downbeat from today's highly technical popular music. Long hours of prac- tice were required to per- fect their musical talents. The band practiced every morning at 6:30 to earn their excellent ratings in competition. Both choir and modern dance filled the school with music and the desire to sing and dance.
