Learning a foreign language was of great importance to students, as well as fulfilling the credits needed to get into college. Foreign language classes introduced students to dif- ferent cultures. ltalian was a new course added to the department. Students discov- ered it to be different and exciting, under the guidance of Daniela De- Falco. Weight training is an intricatal part of physical education P. E. builds Stamina A tennis class plays volleyball in the cafeteria during the cold days. 32 P.E. A gymnastics student strains himself during warm-ups. The Physical Eduatlon de partment was one of the ma jor departments at school The department which was headed by Pete Alvldrez In cluded all athletic teams dance classes and P E classes Students were required to have a certain amount of P E credits and Hanks had a wlde variety to choose from There were tennis classes weight training and conditioning classes as well as many others Life sports one of the newest additions to the de partment took the students out of school for acltlvites such as bowling golfing and swimming The weights and condition Ing classes offered weight lift mg three times a week and running and aerobic exercises the rest of the week Hanks had one of the best P E departments in the Ysleta School District.
