Strong runners improve skills Coach Leiman believed that the will to run was the combina- tion of wanting to be faster and wanting a faster team. Track is one of the oldest sports known, every move mi- mics the original flee or fight, one of the necessities of man. You run to things, and run from you, Leiman said. In his eleventh year of coach- ing, Leiman was proud of the girls on his team. Seniors Lucy Ramirez, Becky Green, Christie Flores, junior Chris Fields, and sophomore Tina Dubrule were at their best in the relays and ju- nior Cheryl DeaI's specialties were shotput and discus. The goals of the track team were basically to be healthy and eligible in order to contribute to team success and do well at invi- tational and triangular meets, and most of all to challenge Eastwood. Leiman felt that what basical- ly kept the girls going, was the chance of competing.
