Returners contribute valuable expertise. This year Coach Mike Williams expected his varsity baseball team to be in contention for a play off spot at the end of the season. Last year was a rebuilding season and fthe playersl gained a lot of valuable experience, said Williams. There were ten returning let- termen on the team, Eric Bran- denburger and James Estrada played on varsity for their third year-in-a-row and Alan Zinter for his fourth. Preparing for their toughest opponents, which were predict- ed by Williams to be Bel Air, Eastwood, and Ysleta, required plenty of practice and sacrifices from the players. Practices were held at the Ys- leta cut-off, which was also where home games were played, and they lasted for two hours ev- ery day. Williams was a really good coach, He motivated us to play as a team. said Jim Gant, sen- ior. The players who showed the most potential were Zinter, Bra- denburger, Javier Alvarado, Danny Parada, and David Perez. We really wanted to improve the winning ways of Hanks, and bring back the championship teams Gant added. Many more students, parents and faculty members attended this year's games than before. I enjoyed baseball, Kathy Head, English teacher said. I taught many of the players when they were in the lower grades. l enjoyed watching them play on the best team in the history of Hanks.
