Ii.- .il- nastics Gym Pa P: i GD L N P Young team I X strives hard This year Hanks had the stu- dents with qualities needed to make the gymnastics team unique and strong in competi- tion. A good gymnast needed a lot of determination to learn and re- Iearn skills. A strong drive to keep going even though you were sore and your hands were bleeding was needed, ex- plained gymnastics coach Rae- Iine Perea. The girls and boys teams were strong enough for state and dis- trict competition respectively. Sophomore Scott Nagao said, All of the team felt confident and they were hoping for the best. Junior Wendy Skipworth con- tinued by saying, Everyone on the team was pretty good. Most of the members were confident in what they were doing. Perea said that she still felt the excitement of teaching a stu- dent a new skill. Hanks has finally come out of the stone age as far as gym- nastics goes, she added. When Perea first came to Hanks there wasn't the needed equipment and the people on the team would not have quali- fied for this years team, if it hadn't been for Perea's dedica- tion to the sport. 224 Gymnastics X ,Reis M . , . I murals lntra In tram urals. Play for fun For the past three years taking part in intramurals during lunch has been a fun way to spend a lunch period. Organized by coaches Angie Kennedy and Ron Leiman, intramurals have devel- oped the participation the coaches hoped. Anyone who wanted could participate in the wide variety of sports which included soccer, flag football, pistol and rifle shooting, basketball, volleyball, tennis, archery, ping pong and baseball. Different clubs and organiza- tions also got involved in the competitive yet fun activities. Among them, ROTC, Espirt de Corps, NHS, gymnastics, and wrestling. Teachers and sponsors got into the scene sometimes and encouraged their students to take advantage of the program, which was not offered in many other schools. I 226 Intramurals .,,,.,. .
