Math club Some people took a math course just to fulfill their needed credits, but there were those who enjoyed math. The math club was designed especially for these people. Students who had interests in mathematics were encouraged by their math teachers to join the club sponsored by Beverly Fielden and Sally Jackman. The club members met once a week during lunch and discussed their plans and goals for UIL competitions and tournaments. Number sense and calculator were the timed tests which the members took during competition. Number sense gave the participant a problem and ten minutes to solve it, the object was to solve it without thinking about it. Calculator dealt with much more complex problems and more time to work them. As in the past, the math club had a successful year due to the long hours of practice. Math is a skill necessary to excel in life, said Jackman. T. Industrial Cooperative Train- ing was a public school service to business and industry. ICT provided a source of young workers who gave serious consideration to the type of job they wanted to pursue. Students enrolled in ICT were trained in many occupations ordinarily limited to adults. The school offered a wide vari- ety of occupational training op- portunities to business and in- dustry as training laboratories. It also promoted close coopera- tion between school and com- munity. Sponsors were available everyday the entire year. George Marcy, sponsor, spent part of his time on counseling concerned with his students job interest. The sponsor's goal was to se- lect young workers with poten- tial. The students' responsibility was to select training jobs on the basis of interest and ability and conform to rules and regula- tions affecting employees, Marcy said.
