HE CE HECE was one of the many programs that branched out of the COOP program. HECE or Home Economics Cooperative Education was a program where students interested in commu- nity service could receive on- the-job-training. Jobs as child care aides, di- etetic aides, food service em- ployees and others in the same area were found for students. In this program students went to school half day then worked the next half. Philis Harbin has been spon- sor of HECE since the program began here five years ago. Har- bin had one class a day with the students in the program. During this class she counseled her stu- dents on the many different de- cisions involved in the working class. I have big goals, and HECE helped me pursue them, said Ernest Retamoza, HECE mem- ber. Students gained on hand ex- perience about the world of works, aiding their future deci- sion making career goals said Harbin. IQOUWLQ Ups Round Ups 109
