We danced the chicken, ate German sausage, sauerkraut and brochin, said club member Michael Garcia. Garcia also said that a fascing party, a type of costume party, was held at a club members house. Fray Ewton, German club sponsor, believed that while her students learned more about the German language in class, club outings taught them more about the culture. The club's biggest goal was to go to Sacramento, New Mexico for a weekend, and immerse themselves in the German language and culture. They reached their goal by selling advent calendars and using the proceeds to fund the trip. Qouvid Ups Round Ups 107

HE CE HECE was one of the many programs that branched out of the COOP program. HECE or Home Economics Cooperative Education was a program where students interested in commu- nity service could receive on- the-job-training. Jobs as child care aides, di- etetic aides, food service em- ployees and others in the same area were found for students. In this program students went to school half day then worked the next half. Philis Harbin has been spon- sor of HECE since the program began here five years ago. Har- bin had one class a day with the students in the program. During this class she counseled her stu- dents on the many different de- cisions involved in the working class. I have big goals, and HECE helped me pursue them, said Ernest Retamoza, HECE mem- ber. Students gained on hand ex- perience about the world of works, aiding their future deci- sion making career goals said Harbin. IQOUWLQ Ups Round Ups 109
