This year was the first year of eight man football in the Wild Rice conference and the Pirates took to itas a duck to water. The Pirates lostfive regulars through graduation but Coach Ernst once again took inexperiencedboys and made up an undefeated team. It was an inexperienced team that tookthe field against Wyndmere butit didn't take long for tue Piratesto prove they were superior as they defeated the Warriors 47-O. In their next game the Pirates spoiled Oak Grove's Seminaryoi'Fargo's opening game by beating the big but slow Grovers by a 51-0 scores fn Hank1nson's next game was a 79-0 rout over the Lidger wood Cardlnals The firsthalf wents1ow'with Hank1nson lea ing 20-O At halftime the Homecomin ceremonles took place and it seemed to inspire the team as they scored 33 polnts in the third quarter and followed wlth 26 ln the fourth Hankinson then took to the road to meet the small but mighty Milner Bison The Pirates had to flght hard to gain a 7 O lead at the end of the i1rSt quarter but then began to roll and beat the Blson by a 54-O count In the1r fourth game the Pir tes rolled over the Fairmount Pheasants 46-7 The Pheasants, however, had one consolatlon as they were the flrst team to score against the powerfullydefensive Pirates The Hanklnson Pirates, str1k1ng hard and fast, knocked West Fargo from the ranks by defeating them 40-13 This was the b1g game of the year The Packers, who had won the con- ference championship for the past two years, were favored to win again but the Pirates had other ideas which they proved as they ran up a 34-6 halftim lead The second half was played on even terms as the final score was 40-13 Hanklnson traveled to Minnesota for tnelr final game of the season and didn't have too much trouble in beat1ng Camp- bell 51-7. The record compiled by the Pirates was one of the best intue school's history. The Pirates scored 368 points while holding their opponents to 27. They also scored more points in any one game than their opponents scored all year around. The Pirates were lead throughout the year by fleshman Harmon Krause who beat out junior James Rumpca for scoring honors by 108 to 102 points. bam Daring, who also will beback next year scored 90 points. The rest of the scoring went in this order: Paul Bladow 28, Donald Horner 24, Charles McIlwain 13, and Wayne Kahn 2. Much of Hankinson's success can be contributed to a strong line consisting of Paul Bladow and Harmon Krause at ends, John Sturgess and Wane Kahn at guards and Charles Med- enwaldt at center. The Pirate backfield consisted of Donald Horner at quarterback, and James Rumpca and Sam Daring at halfbacks. s 5, 1730 I Xe X' ,ll f' h ,Nga . W . . . ,' 1 - . ' R' , 1 J 1.
