Our sophomore year was highlighted by the first All-School Carnival, held in the Civic Auditcrium. The Meteor went weekly and published stories on the completion of new tennis courts and shop builde ings As juniors, we heard HC Happy Day , Wish You Were Here , and 'Tennessee Waltz on the jukebox in the brandfnew cafeteria, The buildings were conf derzined, but no one got excited about it. A new student body constitution failed, then passed cn a second attempt. Television invaded our lives as everyone was talking about Dragnet , Large crowds saw the y,-- turned to see the senior presentation of A Date With ludyw in the spring . . With Mr. Burk Faraola as advisor, the student representatives put in a year of hard work. The first semester saw Ianice Spanke take up the reins of stu- dent government and with a firm hand guide Hanford High School through its tight budget. The second semester election put lack Asaki at the helm of HUHS government. He and his council were faced with the pro- blem of deciding the necessary qualifications for members of the student police system, which was scheduled to go into effect the following year. The 'Pups lost to the league champion Roosevelt Rough Riders by one point in the first game and two points in the second. Another discouraging loss was to Fresno High by the slim margin of one point. Coach Earl lohnson's tall, rangey crew was led by big Pete Brady and sharp shooting Dan Koning, Marv Vanderziel, although handif capped by a lack of height, was an outstanding performer for the Pups all season.
