As practi- cal psychologists, they know that coercion is often less effective with reasonable human beings-like us-than more persuasive measures. Although the lumps of sugar seem to many of us about as scarce as elephant's hair, a little consideration reminds us that, figuratively, they are not so scarce after all. Luckily for us, our trainers have gone through more training, and more rigid training, than we have, and are able to do much to help us in our preparation for the great circus of or- ganized society.
