Here is where another director has his place, Clyde Reid, whose ability and industry have made it possible for many persons to receive many different kinds of instruction in the night school. A colorful business is that of Mrs. Josephine Robinson, whose pretty smile accompanies the red, yellow, blue, or pink slip she hands you. Watcli those tickets, pals-they can be costly. Truant officer Miss Rich-s'cuse, please, I mean Mrs. Nash-has become well known and well liked this year, in spite of the unpopular duties that are hers. Miss Mildred Scherf ably assists our director-in-charge, Mr. Neigh- bor, typing skilfully and speedily large numbers of letters, and keeping books neatly and accurately. Mrs. Rexene Reid, assistant to her husband in the office as well as the home, also types copious correspondence, files, records, and keeps books. Witliout these assistants the smooth operation of the Big Show would be greatly disturbed. 635 Left: Mr. Neighbor's oHice force-Mildred Scherf, personal secretary: Mrs. Aladene Nash, attendance officer: Mrs. Josephine Robinson, office secretary. The Board of Trustees is the link between the com- munity and the school, for the men composing it are the direct agents of the taxpayers. They devote much of their time gratuitously to the many business matters so im- portant to the operation of a school. The responsibilities of the Board of Trustees are many in order that the school will function smoothly. They hire all the teachers, and map out the school year before it starts, watching that the school calendar contains the required number of school days. They sign all bills to be paid, enter into contracts and agreements, and insure all property. All building programs come under their super- vision. The Board of Trustees of the Hanford High School is composed of five members: Homer Tibbs, chairmang Carl Duffy, clerkg and Louis Giacomazzig Louis Barbonig and Cassius Clark. We, the students of Hanford High, are grateful to these men behind the man who governs the school. Top tu bottom: Carl Duffy, clerk: Louis Barbnni, Louis Giacomazzi,l'assius Clark. Some hoard members serve at the track. Below: Homer Tibbs, chairman. DAVIS In the circus the performance is the thing, and the performers must be carefully trained for their various routines. The training program sometimes has to be severe, so severe that the crack of a whip is frequently heard, and occasion- ally the explosion of a blank cartridge, which is necessary to quell the enthusiasm of a ferocious beast. There are other means, however, of inducing the performers to behave properly. A suitable re- ward for a performance well done-a lump of sugar discreetly administeredhmay do more to Chemin? As practi- cal psychologists, they know that coercion is often less effective with reasonable human beings-like us-than more persuasive measures. Although the lumps of sugar seem to many of us about as scarce as elephant's hair, a little consideration reminds us that, figuratively, they are not so scarce after all. Luckily for us, our trainers have gone through more training, and more rigid training, than we have, and are able to do much to help us in our preparation for the great circus of or- ganized society. When the class of 1946 needed help to overcome the usual foes of senior classes, their votes sent out the cry and enlisted the aid of the best advisers ever. The successes of the year attest to the wis- dom of the choice. Both Mrs. Autrey and Mr. Foster have been efficient trouble-shooters. They are the unsung heroes who have made our sen- ior year the best of our four years under the Big Top. To them went none of the fame and glory that are the lot of the performersg yet they worked tirelessly and with never-failing loyalty to our interests. Our budget had to be planned. How much money should we need? How was it to be ob- tained and apportioned? Our numerous projects had to be directed-senior plays selected, casts chosen, tickets sold, usherettes induced to serveg Class Day, Baccalaureate, and Commencement re- quired planning, to say nothing of tempera- ments that needed attention. The need was a cry for help. The advisers responded, and all went well. wifi- 'am ei a udp.: T illing or Seniors ANDREWS, VIRGINIA Tearing hltthely alting-'fhet she's heatletl for the gym tu use up that aniazmg energy.
