For the fourth year in a row the sophomore boys' basketball team. under the coaching of Ken Whiting. is the mid-valley league champs. The Super Sophs of 1982 not only kept up the tradition but started a new trend: For the first time. Hanford sophomores defeated Col High. With the great potential these Super Sophs have shown, there is no doubt that the 1983 junior varsity team will be just as great 'JN ,L0a' ,UV 574.1 jill' - ,,,,W W

Varsity Girls' Basketball The Lady Falcons finished Mid-Valley League play with an impressive 14 win-2 loss record. Pressure defense and a fast-break offense led Coach Murphy's Falcons through the District tournament with a second place finish by defeating Wapato 46 to 39 in the last game before regional play in Spokane. ln game one at regionals, Hanford defeated the Frontier Leagues' runner up Cheney 67 to 40. One more win over Clarkston would put the Falcons into the State tournament for the fourth year in a row. ln the Clarkston game, Han- ford held a one point lead at half time. but a cold third quarter hurt the team's momentum and they lost the game 39 to 37. lt was won by a last second shot by Clarkston. Once again the Hanford girls' basketball program was one of the best in the state with a 21 win and 6 loss record. We had many team accomplishments as well as individual ones. Marlene Price was the only junior in the Mid-Valley to make the first five all conference team and selected as the Athlete of the Week. Senior Jerri Dionne made the second team all conference and junior Mary Ann McCord made honorable mention. We graduated 3 Senior starters and they will be missed by all of us. but we have hard-working people returning that will continue to keep the winning tradition alive and to keep the Hanford Girls' Basketball Program one of the best in the state.
