Kingdome! The Big Band Blast was the best ever for the Falcon Band this year. We won in '80 for the first time. '81 saw us become the first marching band in the history of the Kingdome festival to win two years in a row. The pride of the falcon band. color guard and drill team was never so high. Being a top notch marching unit doesn't happen over- night. We started marching last Au- gust before school opened. By the time we finished football season. we had five half-time shows under our belts and less than a month until Kingdome. Mornings and afternoons were filled 'N I J 'O A' it - -wif Q '- v-'ii' I lg -Q with marching. music. and complicat- ed drills through November and the first week of December. lt was a bit cold sometimes: everybody was tired. and the work was extremely hard. The dedication and hard work paid off on December 4th. The loud speaker an- nouncement went something like this: And now, Ladies and Gentlemen: the ratings for Division lll: Issaquah- 2 X Mariner-2 I Columbia River-31 Enum- claw-21 Shoreline-21 HANFORD-l and the winning band in Division lll is . . . HANFORD!! And the walls came tumbling down inside the Kingdome. All 50 members of the Falcon March- ing Unit went into hysterics. It was un- believable how so few people could fill the 70.000 seat capacity Kingdome with emotional cries of joy and pride. . . The performance for the B state cham- pionship game on Saturday was just one of the many bonuses the band re- ceived for all their work. The group was the best year at Hanford. And you know what? lt will be even better next year. John Blake l ffl .. asv., .naw FALCOM ZWIAXD fs if ,ff ,-Y, N-nt.
