WW- 5 Q . eh-X CLASS HISTORY Early in he fall of 1925, we began to tune-up for a concert which was to last twelve years. We thought that that was going to be a long time for a concert to last, but time has proven that it was all too short. We entered the john Kerr School to the tune of a simple, soft, sweet nursery rhyme. There we made the first of our probably life-long friendships. That in itself is enough to make us want to remember it all our lives. As the orchestra changed its tempo to a march, we suddenly found ourselves removed from the placid life at John Kerr to the amazing activity which so constitutes a part of the life at Handley, For three years we remained in the elementary corridors- scornfully looked upon by the junior and senior high school as elementary brats. However, as the orchestra changed its tempo once again, we found ourselves waltzing merrily into the junior- and in turn the senior-high school. In the tenth grade we organized our class and elected our class ollicers and sponsors. Our only seemingly important duty to our upperclassmen was to provide material for the seniors' bonfire. We were in the eleventh grade before the orchestra expanded into a wee bit of swing . We gave our first dance and also our first play entitled The Red Lamp . To say they were both a success is to put it mildly-very mildly. The orchestra turned again to the march when we, as juniors, escorted the seniors to their class-day exercises. Now we are seniors. Our wonderful concert is nearing an end-only the last few measures remaining to be played. No longer may we turn to one another for the harmony which has been ours for the past twelve years. The time has come for our solos. JANET LARGENT. Clary Hirtorian SI CLASS WILL KNOW YE ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, that we, the class of 38 , the greater part being of sound minds and in a disposing mood, do declare this to be our last will and testament-hereby revoking all other wills and codicils by us at any time heretofore made. We will and now bequeath: To the class now known as juniors, ou.r titles as Seniors, the run of the school building, and the privilege of making up any deficits by us incurred. To the student body, directions for the abolishment of that annoying device known as the tardy bell and the right to declare all absences null and void-thereby making the whole school eligible for the much-coveted Washington Outing. To the boys, front row tickets for that delightful episode of the pageant-the Arabian Dance. To Mr. Sybert and his Lead Beaters, hope that he will see fit hereafter to use clay in fashioning his works of art-thereby lengthening the lives of the eardrums of those in the classes over him. To the movie goers of Handley, a set of disguises to be worn to save them em- barrassment when meeting members of the faculty at the local cinema houses. To Mr. Hale, the suggestion that he make an extensive tour of the homes of all Handley science students-past and present. We believe that he will be enabled- with the equipment he finds-to run his lab for several years to come without addi- tional fees and that he may have enough left over to start a branch lab on the roof. To our loyal advertisers, the hope that at least their ads in the HANDLIAN will not drive away any business. To Mrs. Barr, a volume control mechanism to be used to keep her voice tuned down to a roar while rehearsing the pageant. ' To the future senior boys, the timely advice of Mr. Browning on important mat- ters and the precedent that it be largely ignored. To Mrs. Rhodes, a new clock which leisurely runs 15 minutes OE in M hour. We think that this fixture will increase appreciably the typing speeds of the commercial students. To Mr. Hale, an iron-clad meter-stick to be used in beating facts into the heads of future science students and the privilege of using the nearest table top for a pre- liminary warming-up. To Mr. Yates, the job as caretaker of the bowling alley and tile, indoor swimming pool under the building. He is also authorized to take anyone not knowing of these refinements on a conducted tour. For the grave of our class president the following loving inscription: Heine takes his eternal snooze- Finally having blown his FOOZE For the building a new roof guarantee. It is hoped that the succeeding classes will supply the roof. To the undergraduate classes, the creation of an assorted collection of passing grades to be held in trust until the classes attain their Senior majority. They shall then be divided share and share alike. To Mr. Joyce, a large clock to be installed in a prominent place in his room. This fixture will lengthen both his class periods and the life of his much-handled watch. To Mlle Laughton, in accord with her wishes, a third year French class and a gross or two of assorted French-English dictionaries with which to teach it, 52 To Mr. Bennett, a well-earned rest 'mid the Democrats of Danville. To Mr. Flenner, the night watchman, a diploma declaring him a graduate of Handley High School, Night School Dept. If any heir or heirs should break or alter this will, or if the right of these bequests is violated in any way, that part of the estate shall be reverted to the estate to be divided between the Elementary and Primary Departments. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we, the class of 38 , do hereby set our hands and seal, this eighth day of june, in the year of our Lord, nineteen hundred thirty-eight. SIGNED: THE SENIOR CLASS Signed, sealed, published, and declared as and for, the last will of the Class of 38 , who sign and execute the same in our presence, both of us being present at the same time and at their request and in the presence of each other do hereby subscribe our names as witnesses to said will and hereby certify that the said testators are of sound and disposing minds.
