,ai One of the teachers who has given unselfishly of her time and ef- fort is Miss Irene Besel, who has taught at Hancock High School for 25 years. Miss Besel attended Southeast Missouri State College at Cape Girardeau, where she received her B. S. degree, Columbia University in New York, Iowa State College at Ames, and Washington University. She also attended various classes for clothing construction at the Singer Sewing Machine Company and National Sewing School in St. Louis, and other workshops by business concerns in St. Louis. ller hobbies are all phases of household arts such as decorating, cooking, and clothing. She also enjoys parties and outdoor activities. Iler advice to the students is Keep up with your work daily and try not to be absent so that you will not get behind with your work and lose interest. Take advantage of every demonstration or field trip to keep interested in classes, for a student only gets out of a class what he or she puts into it. To you, Miss Besel, we dedicate the Senior Class Section of the 1954 Memento 15

We have looked forward to the day we will graduate since we were Freshmen, but yet, it seems as though the time has passed too quickly. We have been fortunate in being able to start some of the new ac- tivities for students, such as the Freshman Dance, and Freshman-Sopho- more Outing. Our class was also the first to purchase, with the help of the music departnent, the robes for graduation. As a class, we have sponsored many social activities at Hancock including the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Dances, and the Prom, Springtime in Paris. Our candidates were chosen for basketball queen in both our Junior and Senior years at Hancock. Our class has found nuch to be proud of in the halls of our Alma Mater--the friendly atmosphere, honor students, and outstanding athletes. We are grateful for the help given us hy our sponsors, and we wish to take this opportunity to thank them and express our deepest appreci- ation for their help. l 17
