CLASS I-HSTQRY Thirty seven enthusiastic juniors enrolled at the newly consolidated Hancock Central High School in September, l955 . This was the group known as the Seniors of '57 . The junior class officers were: President, Norman Elsbury: Vice-President, Barbara Simsg Secretary, Betty Macy: Treasurer, Pat Souder: Student Council, Bill Ferris and Carolyn Joyce. Several projects were undertaken to raise money for the senior trip. Get in, get a thousand, and get out was the moneymaking slogan. In September of l956 thirty one students enrolled as seniors. Jerry Oliver withdrew the first semester and Doris Merchant Hammond withdrew the second semester. Marian Grinstead was married, but stayed to complete the second semester. At the end of eight high school semesters there were 29 seniors . Norman Elsbury, Frank Edwards, and Steve Lewman played varsity basketballg Donna Smith and Pat Souder were cheerleaders in the senior year. The class left a television set to the school. A nine day trip through Washington, Niagara Falls, New York, and Canada, which lasted from April 20th to the 28th, was a memorable event. Mrs . Foust and Mr. Leamon, the class sponsors, accompanied the class. Q Baccalaureate was held on Sunday, May 12, and Commencement on Monday, May 13. In Biology we learn the structure of plants and small animals. With our new labor- atory and equipment the students find the science classes more enjoyable. In our Foreign Language Courses we study how the people live and their influence on us. Duet to the size of our school, we have only two A foreign languages--French and Spanish. Accuracy and speed are the ob- jectives of these students. In Girls' Physical Education, we strive to develop a sense of sportsmanship and fair play as well as individual skill. While doing this we have fun and relaxa- tion from our schoolwork. HERFF JONES Indianapolis , Indiana The Drivers Training Class strives to train safe drivers for the future. The students also learn the functions of the parts of the car. In Shop the boys learn to use their hands. They make many useful articles, and care for the tools they use. Learning to work together enables them to meet the needs of society after they leave school. The Home Economics Class promotes all phases of homemaking. Included are courses in foods, clothing, home nursing, personal and family relationships, and preparation for marriage.
