The High School choir under the direction of Mr. Douglas Edwards organized during the fall months to prepare for its Winter Concert. A comparatively large number of the members were inexperienced which made Mr. Edwards' task much more difficult, but the Winter Concert showed an energetic choir constantly gaining polish. The choir made its second appearance at the Annual Choir Festival during the early part of May. The choir received excellent comments for their fine perform- ance. Later they displayed their talents at a concert given at Suomi College in Hancock. The Spring Concert was the last one for these seniors: Alberta LeGault, Sharon Hermanson, Mary Johnson, Carol Ahola, Ann Marie O'Leary, Judy Laitinen, Barbara Usimaki, Judy McClellan, Mari- anne Wargelin, Philip Klemett, James Kuzdrall, and John-Peter Stadius. Accompanist for the choir this year was Lois Rova. ,75- Row 1: Sheila Klalzky, Lorraine Rodda, Elizabeth Klafzky, Lorraine Hilton, Nancy McKie, Margie Klein, Selina Suojanen. The organi- zation began its academic activities during the fall by marching for several football and basketball games. Lou Ann Fleming capably led the group in these exhibitions. The mid-winter concert was next on the agenda. After weeks of practice, the band performed well with such numbers as Barnum and Bailey's Favorite and lrish Tune. ln March a number of soloists from the band participated in the annual solo and ensemble festival in Marquette. The group did very well, gaining a number of first ratings. On May 23, the annual Band Festival was held at the Calumet Armory with the H. C. l-l. band taking part as usual. The year was com- pleted with the spring concert on May 25, thus bringing to a close the activities of the band. -77- Row 1: Janet Niemi, Nancy Nikkinen, Mary Ann Ylitalo, Karen Oinas, Betty Klein, Kathleen Olson, Mary Ann Campioni, Betty Kemppa, Patricia Sandretto, Gail McLean, Marjorie Haapala, Loretta Poggione, Lois Trevethan, Ellen Manninen, Patricia Bonini.
