BEST SELLER WE FINISH TO BEGIN SENIOR CLASS OF 54 lt was a sultry afternoon In September T950 when another group of frIghtened freshmen added a new and orIgInal echo to the halls of H C H WIth gIeat uncertalnlty we strove to fIt INTO the pIctuIe In an orderly way for we were to begln the IIVSI chapter of the book that would be read by many In the future If thIs book was to reveal ourselves as a great example for those who were to follow we had to carefully choose the offIcers or our baslc year of hIgh school James Herman son was our presIdent Joanne Grondme vIce pres dent Frank Cuff secretary and Charles Bennetts served as treasurer These offIcers to gether wIth Mrs NIcholas as advtser helped us to competently buffet the obstacles that confronted us and led us through a successful freshman year Our youthfulness dId not allow too many extra CUVVICUIOI OCIIVIIIGS but we found tlme In splte ot ou studIes to attend the football and basket ball games and the school partIes Thos musIcally Incllned entered the glee clubs choIr and band the gIrls IoIned the lnItIal Club and the boys busled themselves by partIcIpatIng In aIhletIcs The lInal IncIdent of the begInnIna chapters of the book we were wrItIng was a square dance for the class wnth the EIghth Grade as our guests We laId down our pen to entoy a refreshIng sum mer vacatlon and to return agaln as sophomores As sophomores we aqam planned to combme our efforts for another successful year The out lIne of tlnIs chapter Included the followIng students as our offIcers WIllIam GIvens presIdent Mar garet VervIlle vIce presIdent Carol NIkula secre tary and Ann Ve vIlle treasurer MIss ClIff was otr advI er who came to our rescue when we w re unable to cope wIth our problems alone It was In our scphomore year when the plot of our book beaan to take on o constructwe ap p arance Vffe furst stepped Into the lImelIght by pres nttng a pep assembly for Hancock lake L nd n Iootball game latet we ventured out agaun IIT a pep assembly prIor to a basketball game Som progress was evldent for we were In Vlled to IOIIT the vartous school clubs ThIs took a great deal of consIderatIon In order to select the propeI club for our Interests Toward the end of the year we sponsored an al school party a sauate dance called CalIco Cap rs We fInIshed our ophomore year by QCISSIITQ our ekamtnahons whIch entItled us to return the followIng September as Iunlors As our IunIor year approached we l6OlIZed that a more SGVIOUS phase In our volume was befo e us We wanted our edItIon to be as out standung as those wrttten by classes of by gone years We therefore re elected WIIlI'tm GIvens as pcsldent fo he had hown GXCSQIIOIWGI for tks busy year w re John KIllmar VICE presI d nt Margaret Heafleld secr tary and Margaret VervIl'e treasurer Mr Hoffman was our able OdVIS9t In addItIon to our regular offIcers the fol lowIng students served as our councll George OIIWCIS Paul McKIe Jay Cossette Kenneth Jasberg Irma Saarl Dorothy Ruelle Quth Murtonen and Delores Ktnnunen A bIg CIGCISIOIT of thIs Important year came wIth the electIon of our class nngs We oIderefl them early to assure delwery by ChrIstInas The hIghlIght of thIs chapter was our dIOtTtCllIC COITIFIDIJIIOIT Seven Keys to Baldpate ThIs Inelo drama was under the able dlI'6CIIOlT of Mr TIbbs who wIth the followmg cast presented thIs yst ry IH our OUCIIIOVIUFIT on AprIl I5 Jan BY I 1 , 9 ' - ' V I F f .
