A coach is a patient person who is willing to spend long, often frustrating hours working to make us the best we can be. The word coach describes a person who finds our strengths but also recognizes our weaknesses and is willing to work with us to help strengthen those areas and make us the most well-rounded players we can be. A coach is a person who may seem to know all there is to know but who is always willing to learn and grow along with his or her team. To many people the right coach makes the team. A coach has to know and be able to recognize talent and potential, and know how to use it. The coaches of this school are very special and important people and we are taking this opportunity to thank them for all of the hours of hard work they put in over the years to make us the well-rounded students and athletes that we are today. You have now reached a significant milestone in your life—the successful com- pletion of high school. As you begin your journey through life, I urge you to remember that the education you have received is just the beginning. Read, ask questions, be inquisitive and never cease to learn! Best of luck! DR. ROBERT URZILLO SUPERINTENDENT ADMINISTRATION To The Class Of 1987: Congratulations upon your graduation from high school. Good luck to each of you as you take on the responsibilities of adulthood and as you fashion the person you are yet to become. It is said that your generation has experienced prac- tically everything prior to age 18. As with most statements that one contains considerable hyperbole; there's a heck of a lot of living for you yet to do and new life-shaping experiences to be encountered daily. How you permit these events to shape you will determine in great measure the person you become. As teachers and principals we have helped prepare you for life. Now it's up to you—go live it and learn from it. Sincerely, DR. HARRY J. SHELDON ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL To The Class Of 1987: Congratulations upon completing the requirements for your high school diploma. I hope this is but one of many accomplish- ments for you as you proceed through life. 1 wish you much success and happiness wherever your future may lead. Best wishes. Sincerely, GEORGE R. NEARING GUIDANCE COUNSELOR Graduation marks the end of your high school career and the beginning of your adult life. My sincere hope for you, the Class of 1987, is that you will look back on your years at HCS as having pre- pared you to meet and deal with the challenges that life will present. Congratulations to you, the graduates. I wish each and every one of you the happiness of a healthy, productive life, the respect of those who know you, and the love of your family. Set your goals high, the future is yours. Sincerely, PAT WINTERS GUIDANCE COUNSELOR BOARD OF EDUCATION Mr. Frank Sander Not Present for Photo: Mr. Robert C. Originally the bell was presented from officials of the Erie Railroad as a trophy to be handed down to the champion team of the Susquenango Football League. At a league principals' meeting held in November, 1953 it was decided to allow the Hancock and Deposit teams to use the trophy for football competition annually instead of involving all the teams in the league. The winner was to keep the trophy for the year following the game between the two schools. In 1968 the Hancock and Deposit Student Councils jointly agreed on the new rules and regulations which have remained the same to date. 1. Competition for the bell will be during football and basketball regular season games only. 2. Winner of the bell must try to have the bell at all competitions between the two schools during the seasons mentioned. 3. If the winner is not able to take the bell to the competition, then the loser must transport the bell to the winning team as soon as possible. A. No school will keep the bell permanently. 5. At the end of each competition, the losing team must present the bell to the winning team. 6. The idea behind the bell is to promote friendly rivalry and school spirit between the two schools. 1986 QUEEN CANDIDATES O m e c 0 m • 1 n g u e e n MICHELLE BUSI GILLY BROMBERG VON MARIE DOYON % 1986 HOMECOMING QUEEN : GILLY BROMBERG LET’S MEET KRISTIINA Dear H.C.S. With a special speaker-telephone hook-up provided by BOCES, Paul Kantner of the newly formed K.B.C. Band was telephoned for an interview. Kantner, formerly of the Jefferson Starship, spoke candidly to the group for an hour and 20 minutes. Paul responded to answers pertaining to music, politics, science fiction, and current events. Most importantly, he questioned students about issues that concern teenagers today. The day following this first-of-its-kind interview, the K.B.C. Band began their U.S. Tour.
