Text from Pages 1 - 136 of the 1986 volume:

Await you 'Dedication Mrs. Elizabeth Possemato Mrs. Possemato, formerly of the HCS teaching staff, is the recipient of the 1986 Yearbook Dedication. She taught at Hancock Central for 25 years; was and still is loved by all of her former students and col- leagues. She is greatly missed, as her sense of humor was the bright spot in the days of her students. Al- ways there with a smile and warm hello, Mrs. Possemato never failed to entice a smile in return. She was generous as she taught her subjects, thoroughly and completely. This resulted in her being a superb teacher. Fellow teachers remember a friend with a quick quip for minor problems at meetings. Students recall a fashionably attired, witty teacher who did her job interestingly. All of us here at HCS miss you, Mrs. Possemato, and wish you all the happiness you so richly earned here. On behalf of the entire Hancock educational community, I would like to extend my congratulations to the class of 1986. Hopefully, your education has given you a strong foundation for college or work. However, it is important to remember that your education at Hancock is just the beginning of a lifetime of learning. As you leave Hancock, please remember to set high goals for your life and to work hard to achieve your goals. DR. ROBERT URZILLO, SUPERINTENDENT Dear Seniors 86,” As a newcomer to Hancock, most of you probably know me if at all, only as the Elementary School Principal. Nevertheless I wish to extend to each of you warm regards and sincere congratulations as you prepare to leave the first phase of your education and begin a new phase. For some of you this may include college or university, but for all of you it most importantly consists of living as adults Life is the greatest educator 1 know of and what you learn from life from now on is pretty much up to you. It can teach you a lot or nothing, it can broaden your understandings or narrow your vision; it can lead you to developing your personalities and relation- ships with others which are healthy and satisfying, or harden your outlook and constrict your abilities to love and care and respect others largely as you choose. I share these thoughts with you at this time on behalf of those elementary principals you have known, whether here or elsewhere during your school lifetimes. I'm sure I speak for them as well as myself when I share these ideas with you. As persons who have had some influence in helping shape the persons you are now, we principals continue our interest in who you are yet to become. Best of luck and good wishes in your lives and learning. A d m i H I S t r a t i o n SINCERELY, DR. HARRY J. SHELDON ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL BOARD OF EDUCATION Standing: Mr. Sanders; Mr. Wrighter; Mr. Morgan; Mr. Karcher, Mr. Lester, Clerk; Dr. Sheldon, Principal Sitting: Mrs. Neild; Mr. Buckley, President; Dr. Urzillo, Superintendent. Congratulations upon graduation from high school. I hope this is only the beginning of many learning experiences throughout your life. Take advantage of every possible learning situation to gain the greatest amount of knowledge. Whatever activities you may choose to pursue following high school, may much happiness, success, and good health be with every one of you. Best wishes wherever your goals may lead you. GEORGE R. NEARING GUIDANCE COUNSELOR MR. BACHMAN BUSINESS MANAGER My sincere congratulations and best wishes to the graduates in the senior class of 1986. As you look ahead to tomorrow and plan for your future, remember to fashion a dream and make it come true for you. Only when you make this type of commitment can you begin to reach for success and contentment in being you. I wish you all the very best life can hold. MISS GLORIA M. Yoko Mochizuki of Shizuoka, Japan, is Hancock Central's first international exchange student teacher. She introduced to many classes the wonderful cultural and historical aspects of her native country. Yoko is wonderful with children of all ages. An excellent Japanese cook, Yoko prepared and taught her host family, HCS High School Art Instructor Aksel Pedersen, wife Trena, and son Evan, many delightful and nutricious traditional dishes such as sushi, miso soup, tempura, et. al. 66 CUjCZUKAjC exeMAMS TATSUO KAKEUE Santiago ( Santi ) Hurtado, came to Hancock on August 25 from Valencia, Spain, a city of 3,000,000 people, and from a school of 2,000. In addition, Valencia's climate is quite mild, which made his adjustment to the New York snow- filled winter quite difficult. Santi has neverthe- less become an integrated member of school, playing both J.V. and Varsity Football as kicker, and being a member of the Varsity Basketball team. His future plans include returning to Spain and attending a university to persue a career in journalism Santi would like to extend his grati- tude to the many students and faculty at H.C.S. for all the help and memories they have given him. Tatsuo Kakeue, our first foreign exchange stu- dent from the Orient, is a native of Sapporo, Japan, which is located on Hokaido, Japan's northernmost island. The climate is similar to that of the northeastern United States. The sharp cultural contrast between Japan and America has made Tatsuo's stay here exciting, but different. Tatsuo likes the freedom in American schools and society. He has particularly enjoyed his host families and his participation on the bowling team. After high school, Tatsuo plans to major in economics at a university. His experience here has given him fluency in English as well as first- hand knowledge of American culture, for which he is grateful to his teachers and fellow students.
