DEDICATION Mrs. Lester Mrs. Lester is a former graduate of HCS and she went on to continue her education at East Stroudsburg State College where she earned a bachelor’s of science degree in mathematics. Following that, she went on to Syracuse University to get her master’s of science degree in English, and graduate credits from the Pennsylvania State University. Mrs. Lester came to HCS In 1950 and taught social studies along with English, and is presently teaching mathematics. Mrs. Lester has long been an asset to our school and communi- ty. HCS is deeply saddened to see her go. Mrs. Ella McGranaghan Mrs. McGranaghan began her teaching studies at State Teacher’s College at Oneonta where she received her bachelor’s degree and her master’s of science degree in education. She also attended Syracuse University and Oneonta for additional graduate courses. Mrs. McGranaghan came to HCS February 1, 1948 at the age of 19 and took a job in the English department. Mrs. McGranaghan retires this year after 35 and one half years and we wish her the best in her retirement. Mr. Podbelski has been with HCS for many years, starting in 1948. He started as a commercial teacher, then he moved up to Vice Principal and a commercial teacher as well. Next he became the Assistant Superintendent and finally in January of 1965, he became the Superintendent. In 1956 Mr Podbelski received his Master’s in Administration degree at Rutgers University. He also attended the University of Ottowa, Can- ada. Mr. Podbelski is not retiring, but rather changing careers, still we are saddened to see him leave. 3 IN MEMORIAM MILLARD C. FELTER, III DATE OF BIRTH - MAY 19, 1965 DATE OF DEATH - JAN. 12, 1979 Millard was not known by many people, but those who knew him will never forget the kind of person he was. He was a quiet, friendly person who was loved by many people. We will never forget Millard for he gave us joy and happiness. Millard was the type of person who would help anyone at any time and he was well respected for that. God called upon Millard to return home at the age of 14, leaving behind him many heart-broken friends and loved ones. He would not want sorrow and grief, but rather he would want us to remember the happy times we shared with him. Dear Seniors of 1983, Sincerely, John W. Podbelski Superintendent CONGRATULATIONS to you upon reaching this stage of your goals in life — graduation from high school! You are to be commended for this distinctive accomplishment you have achieved. You have met the challenge of completing high school, and now are ready to embark upon new adventures in life. Face these adventures with a sincere willingness to work toward recognizing your future goals, toward becoming outstanding citizens, and toward meeting the challenges of today's society. With these capabilities at hand, you will be able to conquer any problems of maturity and knowledge — the key to any man’s success! The very best of everything good in life to each of you. May you continue to be successful in meeting your goals in life! As you reach one of the milestones of life, graduation from high school, I congratulate you. I urge you to set future goals which seem, at this point in time, beyond your means. This may be one definition of dreaming. I wish you the best as you strive to achieve these dreams. Much hard work and some luck will keep you on your course and you may be surprised to learn that the final rewards may not be the grand achievement of the dream but in having lived the kind of life required to make the dream come true. It has been, for me, a satisfying and rewarding experience knowing and working with the Senior “CLASS OF 1983. Carl F. Schrader TO THE CLASS OF ’83 As this year draws to a close, each of you will embark on a new but exciting journey to develop your talents. I en- courage you to achieve your highest goals and follow your dream. No one can predict your future, except you, be- cause you are truly unique. There is not and never will be another person like you. Each individual needs to develop a good self-concept in order to be successful. . This is not easily attained because our self-concept changes each day as we learn more about ourselves throughout life. As each of you strives to realize your maximum poten- tial, you will do more than develop yourself, you will also develop an increased capacity for the quality of life you live. I wish each of you success in achieving your short and long term goals. Always believe in yourself and be proud of what you are........and what you can be. Benjamin F. Mrs. Peters and the other make-up girls; ticket sellers and stage workers; the janitors, principal and of course, the audiences. The play holds many memories for all of us and we want to thank you for all your support and help. This year’s play was “The Phanton of the Op- era,” written by Gene Traylor and performed by the members of the class of ’83. The cast was made up of Mark Skinner, Tracy Hall, Jim Wright, Joe Davis, Frank Sander, Kelly Drake, Ellen McPherson, Beth St. Clair, Matt Dirig, Robbie Wrighter, Gregg Stuart, Bart Carnahan, Lisa Pe- ters, Lisa Eldred and Steve Eberlein.
