INTRODUCING THE 1979 CHEHOCTON HANCOCK CENTRAL SCHOOL HANCOCK, NEW YORK 13783 FEATURING DEDICATION SENIORS INFORMAL ACTIVITIES ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY INFORMAL SENIORS CLASSES ADVERTISKMENTS DEDICATION EUGENE CARNAHAN The selection for this year's dedication was an easy one: Eugene Carnahan, who has decided to retire after 29 years of teaching at HCS. Before arriving in Hancock in 1950, Gene Carnahan’s education included a Bachelor's Degree from Edinboro. Pa., State Teachers College, and graduate work at Syracuse University. His training qualified him to become an art and mechanical drawing teacher. Although he has been a familiar figure in Room 305 for years. Gene may be best remembered for his work as the HCS Yearbook Advisor. The current Yearbook Advisor would have been hard- pressed to meet his deadlines were it not for the patient help of Mr. Carnahan over the past two years. Gene’s immediate retirement plans include golf, painting (sea scenes and winter scenes on bamboard are among his favorites), traveling to New England, and spending more time with his chil- dren and wife, Gert. The administration, students, and especially the faculty will cer- tainly miss Gene Carnahan! We wish him the best in his retire- ment years. William Hartgrove. Ronald Revelle, Ann Geer. John Mason. Dear Seniors of 1979, It is a pleasure to address you as the graduating class of 1979! It has been my privilege to watch you grow over the years — physically, mentally, socially, emotion- ally, and spiritually — for I have known most of you since you entered kindergar- ten in Hancock! As we end the decade of the 1970's and approach the 1980's, we will face new challenges, experience pleasure and sad- ness, and pursue our goals in life. Consider the following as you continue to grow. A leading psychologist believes the secret of success in school, at home, in a club, even on a job can be boiled down to just five key phrases consisting of only 15 words: .5 most important words— I am proud of you. .4 most important words — What is your opinion? .3 most important words — If you please. .2 most important words — Thank you. .1 least important word — I. Best wishes for good health, great wealth, and much happiness as you prog- ress through life! Sincerely, John W. Podbelski 89 Superintendent GUIDANCE COUNSELOR: MR. NEARING To the Class of 1979: Best wishes in the future. W. T. Wilson Principal This class will always be a little special to me, because it is the first class to gradu- ate from a school of which 1 have been principal. I wish for all of you peace and prosperity. You are about to start on the biggest adventure of your young lives. If you are properly prepared, it will be the most exciting time of your life. And as I leave I know That I am leaving my best friend. Well, our time is finally here, 1979, the year you and I walk down the aisle to receive our diplomas. Just think of all the things we’ve been through together — all those wonderful memories — memories that will survive in our yearbook, CHEHOCTON. Every time you turn the pages something should make you laugh or something should make you cry. One thing we ask of you is to always remember when . . . ... we made new friends ... we had pep rallies ... we wrecked our float ... we walked in late to many classes ... we laughed and cried together ... we went to our Jr. Prom ... we met deadlines for the yearbook ... we went to assemblies . . . we went on our Class Trip ... we spent our last days together I’ll always remember . . . will you?
