Lester We, the Class of 1978, dedicate our Yearbook to Mr. Lester, our high school principal. Throughout our school years we have grown to admire and respect him for his fine ideals. We thank him for his helpfulness, his kindness, his integrity, his guidance, his sense of humor, but most of all we thank him for having a soft spot in his heart for young people. We wish Mr Lester nothing but the best as he begins what we trust will be a happy and healthy retirement. Box 181 Scranton, PA 18509 r cy In Memoriam Laura Hudson To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a timeto speak; A time to love, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace; What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. He hath made everything beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. Class Officers NOELLE L. Podbelski District Principal Dear Seniors of 1978, Congratulations upon reaching your goal in this stage of life — graduation from high school! It was Aristotle who said: “All men seek one goal: success and happiness. The only way to achieve true success is to express yourself completely in service to society. First, have a definite, clear, practical ideal — a goal, an objective. Second, have the necessary means to achieve your ends — wis- dom, money, material, and methods. Third, adjust all your means to that end.’’ Keep this in mind as you continue to be successful in reaching your goal as you progress through life. Best wishes for good health, wealth, and happiness in the future to each of you! Sincerely, John W. Podbelski District Supervising Principal Mr. Lester High School Principal Dear Seniors of 1978, Many times someone has asked you what you would like to do in your adult life. This question is too often taken lightly; however, the choice must be made and it must be made by you. Hopefully, you will be happy with the right choice. Unfortunately for you, incorrect choices bring frustrations. When you make a choice you take a chance, but you must have faith in the future. A poor choice is better than a cop-out. Never feel you cannot change your mind. National statistics indicate that a large percentage of Amer- icans today are in |obs that they did not originally train for. This means you may make new choices. In many cases a new choice in a job leads to a fuller life that enables you to have rejoicing. Keep in mind that the tough way may be the winning way. My personal wish for each of you is that you make the correct choices and that your life will be filled with rejoicing. Best wishes for a full and satisfying life. Sincerely yours. .hf v V ', ,A Wellington Lester 69 Board of Education From Left to Right: Mr Wellington Lester. High School Principal. Mrs Ann Geer. Mr John Mason. Mr James Wright. Clerk. The team showed signs of great future success while establishing itself as a respectable foe during the present season. Beginning the campaign with several uncertain areas, this year’s season proved to be a real team effort. As a result, seven members were honored by selection to the Eastern Division All-League Team. Along with these honors, many players earned expe- rience which will be important in replacing the sen- iors lost to graduation. This will be a difficult goal but one we must achieve. We also wish the senior players much success in their future plans. Coach Smith Coach Witcoski. Coach OiVico and Coach Smith ROW 1: Russell Phillips ROW 2, L to R: Pat Taylor, Fred Peckham. Coaches’ Note This past season was the wrestlers best ever which ended up at 8 and 7. Without having to forfeit a weight class it may have been possible that the team could have won three more matches. As the coach of the 1977-78 wrestlers, I was extremely proud of the hard work, dedication and positive attitude of the members involved. This showed itself best when a healthy HCS team fin ished fifth overall in the Sus quenango League. This is a trib- ute to the fine individuals who made up the wrestling squad. Future teams should be better yet. Coach Law 100 Girls' Basketball ROW 1: J Whitaker. T Swartwout. D Iversen, R Whitmore. J Wormuth ROW 2: C Gisoldi. J Redzich. L Hellmers. A Worobey. D Tyson.
