Foreign Exchange Student — David Bezerra 2ML David Bezerra, our foreign exchange student, arrived from Brazil on December 17 for a six-week stay in Han- cock. He came to learn more about the United States, its life, its people, and its customs. While at H.C.S. David had a birthday party and he was a guest speaker at Rotary. He likes the people at H.C.S. and we have all en- joyed having him here with us. We hope the time he spent at Hancock Central will be one of his fondest memories. 66 ATHLETICS In this fresh evening each blade and leaf looks as if it had been dipped in an icy liquid greenness. The best advice I can give you at this time would be John Wedey's rule of life: Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can. “ Best wishes for every success as you continue to make progress in life! Sincerely, John W. Podbelski Supervising Principal 95 BOARD OF EDUCATION SITTING: Mr. William Hartgrove, Mr. John Podbelski, Mr. Gerard Gilleran - President, Mr. William Wright, Mr. Val Iversen, STANDING: Mr. John Mason, Mr. Michael Reische, Mr. James Wright, Mr. Wellington Lester. 96 Mr. Lester HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL To the members of the Class of 1973 of HCS: As you leave the framework of the public school and pursue a future that we hope will have all the glorious ex- pectations of peace I would like to share with you a thought from the English essayist, William Hazlitt. It has been said that he once remarked that man is the only animal who both laughs and weeps, for he is the only animal able to perceive the difference between what he is and what he might be, always aware in tears or laughter of how far short he falls of his possibilities, always driven by laughter of how far short he fails of his possibilities, always driven by the gap between life as he sees it being lived and life as he thinks it might be lived if only changes could be made in man or his institutions. Best wishes for all the good things that life may bring to you. Sincerely yours, Wellington Lester MRS. CHAMBERLAIN MRS. BAXTER MRS. McGRANAGHAN English English English MISS HOSLER MRS.
