Ftodbelski SUPERVISING PRINCIPAL Dear Seniors of 1972, It has been a pleasure to watch you grow and reach this stage of your life! As you approach graduation from high school, my wish is that you continue to make progress whatever you choose to do in the future. When he received the Nobel Prize for Literature, author William Faulkner had this to say about the future of man: 1 decline to accept the end of man. I believe that man will not merely endure; he will prevail ... because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion, sacri- fice, and endurance.” I believe that a great future lies ahead for each and every one of you. Ours is a big. wide, wonderful world - it is up to you to make the most of your capability and talent in creating that future! Sincerely, John W. It is in this organization that the students gain the deepest insight into good music by study and per- formance. Good music comes in various forms and the concert band performs light as well as serious selections. Only the most proficient belongs to this organization. - - Mr. Cariot MAJORETTES 1ST ROW (L tc R): S. Rowe. E. Hempstead. P. Crawford, J. Tompkins. 2ND ROW; T. Terwilliger. 3RD ROW: L. Charles. The orchestra is still on the way up as it has been each year before. We are proud of our year's work and hope that others will notice and want to join us. Orchestra (or any other music organization) always developes a lot of skills that pay off in any other activity. The Junior Band consists of 28 members from the 4th through 8th grade levels. The organization meets twice a week. The objective is to learn to work together for good musicianship. The 1971-72 chorus has been the smallest one in the last five years. We think it has also been the best. Our goal is to learn to sing well. Music reading and musicianship are the goals. We have a lot of fun and there is graduating credit to boot. The Student Council is made up of elected officers and representatives from the grades 7-12. This group serves as the student government and acts as a link between the administration and the students. President: J. Vanloke Vice President: D. Tompkins Secretary; P. Thomas Treasurer: G. Amoldine The purpose of this organization is to promote hi h scholarship among the members of the athletic squads, to develop more outstanding leaders and to elevate the ideals of sportsmanship in the student body and among the squad members at Hancock Central School. This club consists of boys in grades 9-12 who are interested in the basic techniques of cooking. This year's chief chef is Clarence Burdick and assistant chef, Marty Materese. The purpose of Writers Club is to promote creativity, to improve in writing prose and poetry, and to give students an opportunity to exchange ideas and views with each other. frZFI yearbook representatives, The representatives are students chosen from each homeroom in grades 7 through 12. They assist the senior yearbook staff in the two week presale of the Chehocten in their particular homeroom. Members of the National Honor Society, a service organization, are selected on the basis of character, leadership, scholarship, and service. In past years a tutoring service has been available to students. Other activities include operating a coat check at basketball games and sponsoring a school clean-up campaign. The members assist the librarian and students by working at the desk, shelving books, arranging book dis- plays, and decorating the library. They also have an annual paperback book fair which enables them to do- nate books to the library. These girls do all the typing for the Spotlight and the Flash. They help prepare Newsletter for mailing and learn how to use the different office machines. They are also affiliated with the National Business Educa tion Multiple Association in Washington. D. C. This club consists of students in grades 9-12 who are responsible for publishing the Spotlight and writing the HCS Flash for the Hancock Herald.
