CHEHOCTON EDITORIAL A question being asked with increasing frequency today is: Are American schools preparing capable citizens to run our future Democracy? There are five major steps required of our school in accomplishing this sig- nal duty. First, and most obvious, is the develop- ment of a high degree of intellectual and academic ability to enable the child to think for himself and make wise decisions based on careful analysis. Third, he must be inculcated with a love of culture and beauty. Fourth, he must receive vocational training in or- der to make him a produc- tive member of society, and perhaps most import- ant of all, he must be im- bued with high ethical and moral values essential to permanent civilization. On the basis of this out- line alone, we are not able to judge the standards of education in the entire na- tion.
