af 1949 Class History We, the class of 1949, are about ready tc bid the halls of Hancock Central a fond adieu. During the short years at H. C. S., we have experienced times of pleasure and times of sorrow, good moments and bad moments, but, in the end, all has worked out for the best. Now, we are leaving, but let us pause a moment to review the events of the past years. It seems but a short time ago that we, as Fresh- men, entered the portals of rooms 307 and 315. June 28, 1949 seemed then very distant, but our Freshman year was quite uneventful, so far as class activities go. Even so, under the capable supervisio P id t Dou las Dewey and our advisor, of our res en , g , Mrs. Palmer, we held a successful tag day and en- joyed s class picnic on Point Mountain. The next year we found that we had risen to the exalted position of Sophomores. We, also, found that our class was diminishing in size. Many of our friends had not made the grade, or had left school. we had gained an important addition in the However, 1 form of Richard Long, our present President. Gilbert 'Pete' Banker was elected President and Mrs. Palmer was again elected advisor. During this year, we originated the idea of showing movies for class profi 1 t and we held several tag days. That spring our as activity was a very enjoyable and profitable round and square dance. Our Junior year was a busy year. That year Margaret Young was President and Mrs. Chamberlain was our advisor. We had dances after the football games, showed movies, held a square dance, and had tag days ti Our most important activity, however, was selec ng our class rings. Over this, there was much disoussi and very informal debate, but the rings were finally ordered and in lhreh we were the proudest class ever saw. In June, we decorated the auditorium for the Seniors and participated in the graduation ceremo- nies. 'Jackie' Johnson presented our Nadvice to the d at seniors' and accepted the key. The honor guar s commencement were Norma Kille, Beverly White, Dorothy Ferris Janet Brannon, Richard Martin, Harold Reichman, Gilbert Banker, and Ivan Kinne.
