Greer, a native of Tyler, Texas and Twenty-First, Commanding Officer of HANCOCK, is a 1943 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He served in the USS PRINCETON, participating in all naval campaigns from Tarawa to the first attack on the Philippines, prior to entering flight training and being designated a Naval Aviator in November, 1945. In 1946-47 Captain Greer served aboard USS LEYTE, and in 1951-52 was embarked in USS CORAL SEA. He has served with Fighter Squadrons SEVENTY-ONE, SIXTY-TWO, ONE HUNDRED ONE, and Attack Squadron TWO HUNDRED FOURTEEN, and in 1957-58 commanded Fighter Squadron SIXTY FOUR aboard USS MIDWAY. In 1961-62 he was Com- mander Attack Air Group TEN embarked on USS SHANGRI-LA. Captain Greer has served as aide to the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations CAirJ, and on the staffs of the Chief of Naval Operationsg Commander Fleet Air Iacksonvilleg Com- mander SIXTH Fleetg Commander Naval Air Force Atlantic, Commander Carrier Division SEVEN, and Commander SEVENTH Fleet. The holder of a Master's Degree in Business Administration from George Washington University, Captain Greer was Commanding Officer of the USS PONCHATOULA CAO-1485. He is a 1954 graduate of the Naval War College Command and Staff School and a 1961 grad- uate ofthe Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Captain and Mrs. Greer, the former Suzanne Iohnson, have six children.
