It is from this notebook that the smooth log of the OOD is transcribed, and it is this log which is sent to Washington to become part of the permanent history of the HANCOCK. Operation of the auxiliary steering sta- tions and the steering of the ship during general drills and when leaving port are also duties of the quartermasters of LT T. P. Conroy's busy N Division.
