Girls' State Each year two girls are selected to represent their school at Girls' State. This year, Gaye Boatwright, spon- sored by the North Charleston Kiwanis Club, were chosen by the faculty on the qualities of character, leadership, courage, honesty and scholarship. The girls stayed in the Capstone dormitory at USC for one week. Both girls were elected as sena- tors. Debbie was also vice-chair- man of her county party, and Gaye was the circulation manager of the newspaper. They agree it was hard work but a once-in-a-life-time experience that will never be forgotten.

Teen Board Teen Board representatives chosen for this year are as follows: Ieanette Croft - Con- don's and Vickie Swanson - Sears. As a result of their honor, they are given jobs at the stores and attend meetings once a month. This is truly a memorable experience for both of the girls. 71

B0y's State Mike Sage and Randy Dangerfield were selected on the qualities of leadership and character as Hanahan's Representatives to Boy's State. It was for one week of citizenship and government-education in the summer at the Citadel. Through speeches hy various political figures, exams, and elections, they gained a better insight into the rights of American citizens. As a result of the elections held, Mike was appointed County Coroner. Both Mike and Randy agree that it was a great honor and a week they will never forget. 73
