74e Sta 74c -1960 The yearbook staff is very pleased and proud to be able to present this annual, which commemorates the first year of Hampton Roads Academy. We have tried to capture a few of the facets of life here at the school. Although we expect that THE LOG will be much larger in the years to come, we hope that this will be a worthy start. The very existence of this annual is due largely to the leadership of Mr. William Barker, our faculty advisor. The diligence of our editor- in-chief, Dave Ferguson, and our assistant editor, Don Crandell, should be commended highly. We also wish to thank Mr. Floyd Shelton for his assistance as well as Alex Frediani for capturing some of the typical scenes around school. This yearbook is a tribute to every member of the staff, faculty, and student body, and we hope that it will bring back memories in the years to come. 1959 found the sports activities of the Academy hindered by the lack of suitable facilities for carrying out an effective organized program. We appreciated very much the use of one of the Yoder Dairy pastures for a temporary athletic field. However, the terrain soon proved inadequate for a worthwhile program. Therefore, until better con- ditions became available, group sports were suspended for the winter term. A brighter outlook prevailed upon the arrival of two basketball goals which were set up on the parking lot. These provided a partial sports program until the damp winter weather rendered the parking lot too wet for play. Wrestling mats have been ordered which will provide indoor wrestling about the time our yearbook goes to press. 7 ' Paatu ' ie okaC, f 24
