From the opening whistle it was always evident that Hampton had one of the scrappiest outfits it had ever had. What a thrill it was to see those white helmets and red jerseys of Hampton being battered down one moment but back with more fight than ever the next. We will never forget how the Bulldogs were on Webster City's goal line three times in the first quarter only to be stopped and then to come roaring back to the next three quarters to win 19-13. And how Clarion came over here r-eady to wipe the gridiron with the Bulldogs only to be stalemated in their drive for the Conference Championship. Score 0-0. Back row Kenneth Jackson, Coach Jacot, Coach Cheeley, Coach Brunsvold, and Laverne Sheeler HASHHHALL The Hampton Bulldogs started the season with five letter men: Dean Botts, Dean Rodemeyer, Ted Mueller, Jim Mason, and Ray Renaud. These five boys saw plenty of action during the season. Paul Schipper, a freshman, was transferred to the Varsity after two games with the Freshmores. He also saw plenty of action as the season progressed. Although we had the five lettermen back, we didn't have too much experience. We started the sea- son very slow. But when we met Humboldt we began to play ball. We came within three points of de- feating them. Another good game that we played was with Algona, then the Conference Champs. We stayed even with them until the last quarter when they went ahead. We returned fighting after the au- tomatic time out and came within eight points of winning. Our last Conference game at home was with Humboldt. They had just beaten Webster City, the final Co-champs of the conference. We gave them a battle all the way and were barely nosed out in the final seconds of play by one basket. We played Greene and trom-ped on them in the Sectional. We went to the District and played Osage. This was a close game until the last quarter when we went ahead to win by five points. In the finals of the District we met Clear Lake who had beaten us twice before this season. We were very enthusias- tic and went on the floor with the intent to win. We battled all the way and were barely beaten ln the last few minutes by a field goal for Clear Lake.
