mmmm i One matter which math teachers were concerned with was the state requirement that only one mathe¬ matics unit is required to graduate. Students who studied math for only one year were not taking full ad¬ vantage of what the Mathematics Department offered. Everything from basic math to calculus was available for the interest¬ ed student. Those who studied math throughout their high school years have found it to be beneficial in all walks of life upon graduation. Mrs. Joyce Weeks, Chairman of the Mathematics Department noted that, “The Mathematics Department strongly advocates that learning math or any subject should require that students acquire procedures to assist them in solving individual problems in addition to mathematical problems.” 1.
