Mark Mitchell tries to escape from class, but he is caught by the camera in his daring attempt. Too Bad! Pam Buchanan, Jean Lieverman, Mark Lassiter, and Charlie Burgess present Mrs. Orcutt with a going away gift. Debbie and Jamee seem surprised to see Susan looking so well! Danny Mitchell, and Tommy O ' Brien play the role of typical seniors getting ready for college studies! 6 FEATURES Debbie Rijnovan, Cary Patrick, and Janice Rosser Rock Out at a Hampton S.C.A. dance . . . What is Steve Bowler doing? Secretary, Marie Kapshuck, helps the S.C.A. by serving drinks at Branch Lawson tries the latest dance??? one of the S.C.A. dances. FEATURES 7 Janice Rosser is presented with her boyfriend, Steve Bowler, at the Homecoming dance. Valerie (above) and Shelley Pearce make this year ' s Homecoming a family affair. Junior attendant Vinetta Paige gives a smi le as she and Elester Williams walk onto the field. Carla Ray glows as Mark Lassiter presents her escort, Chet Hart, with her trophy for the 1 970 Football Homecoming. Frances Kapshuck and Cary Patrick look happy as they await the announcement of the Queen. 8 FEATURES Marie is filled with excitement as she hears her name announced as the new 1971 Basketball Homecoming Queen. First ber banner and then her bouquet as Marie starts her reign as queen. The members of the 1 97 1 Basketball Homecoming Court and their escorts are Jean Jones, Steve Taylor; Watelia Douglas, Tim Barrett; Sarah King, Bill Huggins; Queen, Marie Kapshuck, Steve Veneris; Ann King, Ross Willis; Sue Goetkin, Vince Behm; and Denise Lineberry and Tommy Sweeney. FEATURES 9 The bonfire was the peak of the Thanksgiving season. Everyone showed his spirit dancing by the fire. Dick Phillips, Vicky Smith, Rod Reasor, Anita Knibb, Ross Willis and Barbara Ward express themselves to the Cabbage before the big game the next day. ' s Marching 100 rests on their knees Ronnie Cholewinski during half-time. waiting to perform during the half-time. 10 FEATURES Hampton High ' s Alma Mater, led by the cheerleaders, closes the eventful Thanks- giving activities. Cue Wilson (66), Neil Ferrari (44), Tom Henderson (85) and Vernon Reynolds (75) Students take time out to socialize during half-time, break through for the most exciting game of the season. FEATURES 11 Most of the floats meet the destiny of the roaring bonfire flames. Students gather around the warmth as the conflagration dies down. Eyes right! The patriotic JRAFRTOC float shows its colors and wins first place in the parade. Much detail and extra trouble went into the float. Juniors Debbie Deveikis and other faithf ul German Club members work diligently on the German Club Float. Club president Bill Huggins was the motor for the float. FEATURES 13 Two Crabbers lend a hand. Room 228 says, Merry Christmas! Santa puts the reindeer out. 14 FEATURES m Jamee kisses a frog — hoping for a prince. Crabber Claws The Sophomore bulletin board supports the S.C.A. ' s Toys for Tots drive. FEATURES 15 Super Crab rescues the damsels in distress . . . and they live happily ever after. Vicki turns a flip with the help of Ann and Charme. 16 FEATURES Mr. Ware comments. And the band plays on . . . David and Kris and Liz and Rob and David and Dolores and Debbie and Tracy . FEATURES 17 The Acappello gives Mr. Swiggett their attention. The fellas of the concert choir shine in one of their various perform- ances. Mr. Swiggett announces a number to be sung by the concert choir. The concert choir under the direction of Mr. Swiggett performs a number. 18 FEATURES Mark Thorton is introduced as student conductor. The HHS band waits attentively for Mr. Torian ' s signal to start playing. The band in under the direction of Mr. Charles T orian. The traditional pie throwing is displayed at the Pops Concert. Mr. Torian is attacked from the rear by a man- Mark Thorton confidently directs the HHS Band, eating pie. FEATURES 19 Brenda Hawks clings to her husband, Roger Goldman, as they portray Rev. and Mrs. Sibley. Frank Keisor and Danita Hall provide background music for the play. Roger Goldman, alias Frank Drummer, reveals another of Spoon River ' s secrets. Lying on stage? That ' s Mark Mitchell as Willie Metcalf in the Junior Class Play, Spoon River Anthology. Wayne Applewhite portrays another of Spoon River ' s deceased citizens. In the black of Spoon River ' s graveyard, Mark Mitchell, Beth Diggles, and Mike Brock speak their peace. 20 FEATURES Backstage, Debbie Lass takes a break during her performance in Up the Down Staircase. Bea (Phyllis Pelton) listens patiently as Sylvia Barrett complains about her job. It ' s a hopeless case as Jill (Watelia Douglas) tries to sell her school paper. Vice-principal (Mark Mitchell) lectures to Miss Barrett on another one of her mistakes. As usual, Miss Barrett conducts an orderly class. FEATURES 21 The contestants nervously wait for the finalists to be announced! Frances Kapshuck and Kim Davis model formals. Joyce Jones models for the judges. 22 FEATURES Mimi dances to Raindrops Keep Julie Downes is presented before her crown is given up to the Falling on My Head. new Miss HHS. Monty Cones and Beverly Montgomery displayed their talents. Meet the five finalists: Monty Cones, Mimi Seale, Carla Weih, Watelia Douglas, and Beverly Montgomery. FEATURES 23 Denise Lineberry campaigns for Chaplain. Anthony Gould delivers his victorious Presidential speech in this year ' s SCA Elections. Security is Jill Stem for Vice- President of the SCA. Mary Crawley, treasurer-elect, leaves the podium. 24 FEATURES I ' m Kenny Baker; vote for me. Al Francis waits anxiously to speak for the treasur- er ' s office. Rhonda Simpson (above) and Patty Enneking both give their opinion of the duties of a secretary. FEATURES 25 26 FEATURES Several groups worked on programs to be presented at the door. 3 r Scott Buttles, Jamee West, and John Ailor prepare to start a new row onto the ceiling. Charlotte Saunders and Carol Jean Crane make some minor adjustments before mounting the mural. Dick Phillips, Billy Ball, and Jamee concentrate on keeping the crepe paper ceiling untangled. Here we have Lynette Popma peering from deep. Patty Enneking and Connie Haynes work together on a candlelabra for the evening. FEATURES 27 Jamee West and Debbie Rijnovan watch Ernie Burt show them the newest dance. Carla Ray gives a big smile before she is crowned as queen of the prom for 1971. Carla is caught off-guard as she waves to a friend. Many onlookers watch as the queen is crowned and the king is presented with a plaque. King, Jimmy Cole, and queen, Carla Ray lead the procession from the gym. 28 FEATURES Couples watch as the homeroom representatives are announced. Mr. Stanley Mitchem crowns Carla as queen of the prom for 1971. The music was played by Adrian and the Sensations. The crowd danced until the night was gone. Many couples found relief in the girls ' gym. Jay White dances while his date gives a look of surprise. FEATURES 29 MAY DAY MAY DAY is frizbees. 30 FEATURES haPPM MAY DAY is clowning around. MAY DAY is eating an ice-cream. MAY DAY is togetherness. FEATURES 31 Mr. Ware almost gets a pie from the class of ' 71. Class night participants lead the Alma Mater. Mary Sawyer (not pictured) and Mark Lassiter received Ye 01 ' Hampton Award. Charlie Burgess received the Craig Zimmerman award.
