B? li 1 T it 51' A Heritage to Share Education has played a major role in the aftairs of the city of Hampton since its beginning. ln the will of Beniamin Syms, read in 1634, there was a provision for the founding of a charity school which marked the establishment of the first tree school in America. In 1659 Thomas Eaton made a similar bequest in his will. The two schools, operating separately for many years, combined in 1805 as the Syms-Eaton Academy, on the site of the present Hampton School Division's Administration Building on Cary Street. Hampton offers its citizens a rich heritage in educational history. Seniors of l96O, you have observed additional Hampton High School history in the making during your years as high school students. You have enioyed our progress from our former building to the present lovely Hampton High structure you now call your school. You have seen the development of other new Hampton schools and the growth of strong school leaders to administer the privileges of these educational additions to your city. Take with you the sacred traditions ot Hampton and Hampton High School. Take with you the desire to be a continuation of the dynamic leadership and growth your city and school have contributed in the past. Be eager to find your place of service in your community, historical, tradition-laden Hampton, or another community to which you will have the privilege of contributing some results of your fortunate Hampton heritage.
