Mrs. Watson explains the difficulties of English The curriculum at Hampton has been greatly expanded in the last few years. Added to the language department this year were Russian, taught by Mr. Edward Szetela, and German, taught by Miss Suzanne Prillaman. The vocational arts department has also been increased this year by the acquisition of courses in practical nursing and dietetics. ln addition to these new subjects are the old standbys - home economics, wood, metal, and electrical shops. Algebra, plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, and advanced math are the higher mathematics offered at Hampton. Of course, commercial maths such as bookkeeping, and general business math are also taught. These are a part of our excellent commercial courses. Science has become such a major issue in modern education that an outstanding science department is a must in a good high school. We count ourselves extremely fortunate that the instructors of biology, chem- istry, and physics at Hampton are striving to make these courses the best in the state. Each student has a choice of the language, math, and science he wishes to take. Every student is required to take three years of English, one of United States history and one year of United-States government. Physi- cal education is not neglectedg a student must have two years of physical education in order to graduate. Students at Hampton are not always told '4You must take this or that. Many electives - art, speech, journalism, vocal and band, for example - are offered to insure each graduate of a well-rounded high school education.
