At the Girls' State convention last year, Joyce Gottlieb had the distinction and honor of being elected Governor of Girls' State. Betsy Wetmore, Margie Kersey, and Charles Talbott were elected mayors of their cities at Girls' and Boys' State this past year. 33535, rm IQ1 E Sam Hixon was elected Clerk of the House of Representatives at Blacksburg last year and Lee Brown was given the honor of Speaker of the House. Hampton High School was excellently represented at both Boys' State and Girls' State this past year at Blacksburg, Virginia. Girls' State's highest office, Governor, was taken by Joyce Gottlieb. The mayors of two Girls' State cities were Hampton students Margie Kersey and Betsy Wetmore. Margie Kersey's city was given the title Model City and Margie was presented with a plaque, now on display in the trophy case. Betsy Wetmore was selected outstanding citizen in her city. Boys' State was not to be outdone. Charles Talbott was elected mayor of his city and Sammy Hixon was chosen Clerk of the House of Representatives. Lee Brown received the distinction of becoming Speaker of the House. The entire student body is extremely proud of all of the delegates to Boys' and Girls' States.
