ln the historical state of Virginia on the north shore of Hampton Roads stands the modern town of Hampton with her proud memories of days past. Great wars and nation-building events once unfolded within this city which today boasts of being the oldest continuous English-speaking town in Amer- ica. We, the students of Hampton High School, feel honored to have had the privilege of growing up in this line old community. Yet, we believe that a town with a history like Hampton's offers a challenge to her youth, a chal- lenge to use the wisdom and knowledge born in the past to achieve greater things and higher goals in the future. We, the students of Hampton High School, in accepting this challenge given by our home town, would like to tell the rest of the world a little of the history of this community of'which we are so proud. 6
