Football is the thing, 100 HAMPTON 48, BENEDICTINE 6 The 'fFighting Crabbersn opened up the 1953 season with amazing form by defeating Benedictine of Rich- mond, 48-6. On the opening play of the game Buck Lynn ran sixty yards on a plunge through the center of the line and from that moment on the Crabbers literally ran away with the game. HAMPTON 28, MAURY 6 After not being considered much of a threat before the season, the Crabber eleven had the experts guessing after the Benedictine game. Maury, rated second in the state in pre-season predictions, was favored to beat Hampton by two touchdowns, but the Crabbers must not have read the papers because they rolled to an im- pressive 28 to 6 victory that set the ':Commodores,' back on their heels. With Jodie Smith, Buck Lynn, and Leon Miller car- rying the offensive load and Royals, Anthony,Odell and Thornley hitting them defensively the Crabbers in- creased their prestige in the state one hundred per cent with that one victory. HAMPTON 40, FAIRFAX 0 When E. C. Glass wisely gave up playing it ws an unlucky day for Fairfax. The team, feeling extra- ordinarily good because of the fun it was having on their trip ripped into Fairfax and won 40-O. Miller and Clark spearheaded the invasion with two touchdowns a- piece and Kelly jones and Bill Carmichael played excellently on defense. 72111: Coach EASON Mz'dd!e.- FRANK ANTHONY Bottom: Douo RoYALs in ,QW . , 54 f. Last year the Panthers', calmly walked into Darling Memorial Stadium a decided underdog and later calmly walked out a 25-21 victor. This year it was a di- ferent story. From the opening' gun Fuzzy Buck- kovich and Jodie Smith showed the Richmonder's how football should he played and in doing so led the team to a 33-0 victory. HAMPTON 19, WARWICK 6 The Warwick Free Staters were next on the Hampton list. In a series that is fast beginning to make the two schools arch enemies, Hampton von- tinued its win streak hy defeating the Farmers 19 to 6. Joe Smith, Otis Forrest, and joey Lawrence did the scoring for the Crahhers while our defensive team held Warwick to one touchdown. Q ' rm llfllllffft?flfl0ll record.
