There were many people in attendance, eacxh hoping to win at least one of the prizes displayed on a table in the back of the room. Pinochle, bridge and 500 rummy were 'the activities of the evening and bingo was played in the lunchroom. Refreshments were served during intermission by -the Junior girls. Betty Ann White JUNIOR PROM Not many Hampton students have ever had an opportunity to visi-t a Chinese tearoom. But this drama came true on May 14, 1948-the day of the Junior Pro-m. The couples that c.ame to the prom that evening fo-und the auditorium transformed from drab school rooms to a quaint Chinese teario-om. Ken Brader Jr.'s Orchestra provided the music, and during intermission, punch and cookies were served by two Freshman girls dressed in Chinese cos- tumes. At twelve fo'clock the happy couples left in a gay mood, -having spent their iirst evening in Chinatown. Marybelle Apgar HALLOWEEN DANCE The .annual Hallowe'en Dance, given by the Sophomores to welcome the Green Ere-shmen, was given October 30, 1947, in the high school au-ditorium. During 'the day, the Freshmen wandered bashfully about the halls wearing suits of long underwear-rouge and lipstick--and bones and rope in their up- swept hair. At night the group was initiated, and after their ordeal was over, everyone -danced. , The auditorium was 'decorated with black and orange crepe paper, pump- kins, and corn shocks. A new stationary screen, a new sound system and a new projecting machine have all been added to the equipment, A great variety of films was sent to the school' by the state, the county and large manufacturing and shipping firms. They were shown very frequently, often as many times as twice a week. SADIE HAWKIN.S' DAY DANCE Last year a new and diferent dance was addeid to the calendar of school activities. To celebrate November 14, Sadie Hawkins' Day, the Senior Class sponsored a dance with the usual procedure reversed: girls dated boys, asked them to dance, made corsages of vegetables, and paid all expenses. A regular Dogp.atch affair, the students came dressed in dungarees and plaid shirts. They danced to the music of the Ridge Runners. The auditorium was decorated with green and yellow crepe paper and humorous placards. . - SENIOR SNO-BALL This year the Senior Class made their Christmas Dance, a semi-formal affair. The auditorium was decorated in red and green, and pine boughs with tin-sel. A large Christmas tree stood in 'the back of the room. Christmas lights and evergreen branches decorated the d-oors and main entrance and snowballs of cotton hung from a wire in front of the orchestra. Bids were made from heavy red construction paper and ribbon in the form of Christmas tree balls and hung from a miniature evergreen tree in the hall. Punch and cookies were served and everyone had a midnight snack at the Rancho in Belvidere af-ter -the dan-ce. Ken Brader Jr.'s orchestra played, SENIOR CARD PARTY The Senior Card Party was :held February 6, 1948, in the auditorium. Refreshments were sold and prizes awarded.
