The members were chosen on a scholastic basis. They were responsible for the checking in and checking out of books. Members kept the library straight- ened by dusting the shelves and keeping periodicals and magazines in order. New books were purchased with money paid by students for fines on books that were overdue. Each voice was given special consideration and placed in its respective group. The club sang a variety of religious and secular music by modern and classic composers both in unison and in parts. The group performed at graduation and gave a program of choral music for Easter. Richard Crater accompanied the singers. Meetings were held every Wednes- day. The newspaper-magazine prints a variety of news, Sports articles, fashion col- umns, record, book, and movie reviews, and gossip Students are encouraged t-o write short stories, travelogue.s and other material for the magazine, and popu- lar opinions on current matters are printed, and polls conducted. Last term The Melange sponsored an essay co-ntest with a prize of live dollars for the best essay on a given topic. The Melange is a non-proiit organizationg all fees collected at the end of the year from advertisements and sales of the magazine are given to some one of the clubs in the school with which to buy any nee-ded equipment, boo-ks, or music. The magazine is published on the Brst Wednesday of each month. Merits are given if a prominent position of t-he staff is held. PAGE 34
