Sliker as a member of its faculty during 'these past years. Miss Sliker has greatly in- fluenced those of us who have worked with her, not only through her thoroughness and patience, but through her personal qualities as well. i It was she who guided us through our high school years, helping to make this book and our many other enterprises successful. We shall always admire and thank her for the 'friendship and loyalty which she gave us. The staff of the 1948 Breeze proudly dedicates its book to Clara Kline Sliker. Membership was 207-the largest number of people ever enrolled in tlhis organization. The meetings which were held the third Tuesday fo-f every month in the school auditorium were very interesting. Various groups provided entertain- ment on different occasions: the kindergarten and the first and second grades presented a Christmas program .directed by Mrs. Bogart and Miss Williams, while a musical under the direction :of Mrs. Willard Weisel, was presented at another meeting. . ' ' Once again the organization obtained state financial aid and sponsored -its milk program for 'the elementary students for the win-ter months. Many children took advantage of -the opportunity to purchase milk for -ten -cen-ts a week. The P. T. To celebrate November 14, Sadie Hawkins' Day, the Senior Class sponsored a dance with the usual procedure reversed: girls dated boys, asked them to dance, made corsages of vegetables, and paid all expenses. A regular Dogp.atch affair, the students came dressed in dungarees and plaid shirts. They danced to the music of the Ridge Runners. The auditorium was decorated with green and yellow crepe paper and humorous placards. . - SENIOR SNO-BALL This year the Senior Class made their Christmas Dance, a semi-formal affair. The auditorium was decorated in red and green, and pine boughs with tin-sel. A large Christmas tree stood in 'the back of the room. Christmas lights and evergreen branches decorated the d-oors and main entrance and snowballs of cotton hung from a wire in front of the orchestra. Bids were made from heavy red construction paper and ribbon in the form of Christmas tree balls and hung from a miniature evergreen tree in the hall. Punch and cookies were served and everyone had a midnight snack at the Rancho in Belvidere af-ter -the dan-ce. Ken Brader Jr.'s orchestra played, SENIOR CARD PARTY The Senior Card Party was :held February 6, 1948, in the auditorium. Refreshments were sold and prizes awarded. Ken Brader Jr.'s Orchestra provided the music, and during intermission, punch and cookies were served by two Freshman girls dressed in Chinese cos- tumes. At our first class meeting, Miss Ma-rks introduced herself as our class dean and the officers were elected as follows: President, Fred Plushanskig Vice-President, Joyce Beattyg Secretary, Albert Fleming: Treasurer, Betty Frittsg we went through the usual anxieties of initiation but we all sur- vived 'the ordeal. As green freshmen we sponsored the St. Patrick's Day Dance. Before we knew it one year was gone-exams over-and everyone happv. As we started our second year at H.H.S. we felt more confident. It was now our turn to get revenge on the poor innocent freshmen by initiating them. The dance was a big success so we tried our hand by giving a Valentines Day Dance. Miss Sliker became our new dean and the class officers were: Pe-rsident, Lois Bowlbyg Vice-President, Doris Bibinger: Secretary, Richard Craterg Treas- urer, Russeil Lewis. We scored m.any accomplishments-now it was time for the big event-exams. We all came through with flying colors an-d we got our much-earned vacation which we all enjoyed. We returned as sophisticated upper classmen with Tom White leading o-ur cla-ss as President: Jennie Lechenski, Vice-President: Doris Bibinger, Treasurer: Lois Bowlby, Secretary. Miss Sliker, much to our pleasure, was still our dean. This year we made successes on our Junior Ca-rd Party and Sadie Hawkin's Dance. Then in May we had t:he most stupendous prom in the History of H.H.S. Again it was time for our vacation. Now we were the superior Seniors-one year left and we would be out on our own. Due to the fact that our Sadie Hawkin's Day went over so big last year we decided to give another one. All the boys dressed in dungarees and the girls in slacks-we all had loads o-f fun. Miss Sliker was still our dean and class officers for our last year were: President, Dick Crater: Vice-President, Lois Bowlbyg Secretary, Betty Frittsg Treasurer, Doris Bibinger. This year we gave a Christmas formal with Ken Brader's Orchestra providing the music. When we returned from our Christmas vacation we commenced making plans for our Senior Card Party. Prizes were donated by class members and various stores. In June we ended our four years at H.H.S. by giving a success-ful clas-s day celebration. We would now like to take this opportunity to 'thank Miss Sliker for the help and guidance she has given us during our years at H.H.S. I know that since you are so busy managing -the Elite Beauty Salon you haven't had much time to see our old friends so I'm sending you all the news. 'We've come a long way since our carefree days at H.H.S. when all olf the teachers despaired of our ever accomplishing anything. I left New Y-ork by plane and met Barbara first. She has been Mrs. O'mahundro for quite a few years now and is an able assistant to Tommy in his work. to the West Coast where I had dinner with the welll-known jo-urnalist an assignment on the Coast now and took me to the station where we with Fred between trains. He was heading back home and looked very From here I flew Richard Crater. He has just had time for a chart handsome in his Marine As I was walking down Hollywood and Vine, a towering building caught my eye and the sign on the front held Joe Foldvary's name in large letters. It seems that he has ceased being a traveling salesman and is now selling a streamlined line of beauty products. Winging my way East once more, I landed in Iowa and went to see Charlie Janosa, who had a 2,000 acre farm equipped with the latest word in modern machinery. We had a grand time exploring and talking over old times. Charlie dire-cted me to New York and here I found the U. N. International Buildings which are very ultra-modern and nearly completed. Here I saw two of the coun-try's besjt masons working side by side, Art McElroy and Charlie Hauck. Vlhile I was examining the buildings one of the best electricians to be had walked in and it was our old friend Albert. One of the years sensational murder trials was being tried at this time so I visited the courtroom and found Eugene a competent lawyer fighting for his case. While in New York-I decided to do some shopping and so of course I went to one of the exclusive shops where the dresses are designed by Doris. Bibinger who is just the same as ever. Jeanne is an Angel in White in the Bellevue Hospital and said that she enjoys her work immensely. She also has her eye on a very handsome Dr. tha-t works there. In my mail that had been forwarded, I found a week-end invitation to Connecticut. It was from Eleanor and I found her very happily married to Bill and as I opened the door two lintle gi-rls threw themselves on me followed by Eleanor. We had a wonderful gab fest. When I again reached New York I went to see Jennie who is the head botanist where she works.. .Iennie's dimples still have the charming effect that they She told me where I might see Marie. Marie's dream has a Powers Model. Florence has also taken the matrimonial plunge and runs an her ambition in high school. The class kibitzers, Tom, Bones, and Linky are traveling adventure and seem to be very successful at it by the newspaper reports. That accounts for everybody and I think that everybody deserves an orchid for their success. I'll be seeing you soon. uniform. used to. come true, too, and she is ice cream parlor which was all over the globe seeking Love, Lois PAGE 49 'A'A'IA'A'A'IA'A'In'IA'A'A'A'A'A'A'A'A'A'A'A'A'iA'' 1948 BREEZE A ' -.11 AVI 'A'IAVAVIAVAVNAVIAVAVAV VAVAVAVAVIAVAVIAVJL Last Will and Testament We, the Class of Nineteen Hundred and Forty-eight, being of sound mind and body, and in a generous mo-od, do hereby make this last will and testament, bequeathing the following to our successors: Eleanor Ames wills her loving ability to Mary Capizzig maybe it will help her.
