Esther Samuelson Hl'Ll6Hllf DEDICATIO With sincere thanks and continued appreciation, we, the senior class of 1957, do dedicate our Hi-Lighter to William Schmidt, who has watched us progress through the twelve years of our formal education . We hope that our yearbook will express in some measure the gratitude we hold for the knowledge which he has imparted to us, for his friendship, and for his unstinting efforts as our class sponsor throughout our high school years. 2 g -. is Mc., 5 w 1 f' 131 Y . 55 , ,,.. 51 iw wh HZ , A. MAX LOLLAR Principal Hampshire High School LENDa HAND, SENIORS The nineteen hundred fifty-seven class is small in number but contains much potential for good in the years ahead. I have faith that the class will do its part in helping to make the world and its people better. lt is hoped that each one of you will be able to use the know- ledge gained in the Hampshire High School to achieve happiness and true success. lt has been my observation that happiness and true success comes only to those who are unselfish . So, while you are busy carving out your own lives, don't forget to lend a hand to someone less fortunate. In this way the class of nineteen hundred fifty-seven, though small in number, may be a powerful force for good. Compliments ,....... Hampshire Lions C lub T 1 4 Q fi HARRY D. I, a dreamer of the class of '58, am beginning a iourney around the world and decide to start with a trip to Hampshire, Illinois, which is now a thriving metropolis. As I approach the outskirts of town, I notice a large farm with Halbmaier Homestead, Thomas Halbmaier, Owner written in large letters on a big white barn. Nearby, I see in green neon ligh Donna's - Home of the Kellen-burger. I become tied up in a traffic iam at Allen's Corners, which is now owned by Donald Boll, famous sports-car driver. It is four-thirty, and the workers from Holze's Shoelace Factory are causing the traffic mixup. Jerry Holze, a philanthropist now produces free shoestrings for under- privileged children . Finally, I stop for the night at CarIson's Cabins owned by David Carlson, a retired Army General. The next morning I awaken to the sound of music and hear Sand Dre miller singing the Saint Louis Blues, which has again become popular. All ofa sudden the music fades away and illi- Block famed announcer, reports: We interrupt this program for a special news bu letin. Miss Audre Warrin ton who is participating in the National Women's Bowling Championship Touma- ment this wee is in the hospital for treatment ofa broken finger. I decide to go to the hospital to see Audrey. On the way I notice a turqoise building with a sign saying Joanne's Masters-on Beauty. As time doesn't permit my stopping, I continue on to the hospital where I meet Diane Ihng, R.N., Director of Nurses, who has iust been presented the Florence Nightingale Award of I977. From the window of Audrey's room I see a crowd gathering down the street, and I decide to find out the cause. I arrive iust in time to see the unveiling of the new Fenz sports car at Mary Jane Fenzel's famous show room. Next, David Getzelman is introduced. He is the one who designed these exclusive cars and is now presenting the keys of the car to Barbara Goeke who has been chosen the best dressed woman in the city. Here to take pictures of this important event is Morris Pa e an outstanding photographer. He invites me to go alone with him to take the picture o orraine Henning, who is the banker on the 564,000,000 Quiz Show. I decline Lorraines invitation to keep a luncheon date with Mar'orie Maushak Dean of Women at Beloit College. Marge tells me that Dave Thompson is head oft e Agricu tural Department there. To brush up on the latest dance steps I get an after-dinner appointment at Gordon Run e's Rudiments of Modern Dance Studio. Later, I stop at the drugstore and am greeted by John Thomhill, who is head pharmacist. I pick up a copy of Reisers' Register owned and edited by Jean and Joan Reiser. The headlines read: Take-Off Date Being Planned for Rocket Ship. Curiously I read on and find that for the last few years And Schaefli and Michael Modde have been busily designing and building the first space ship to go to t e moon. The ship is to be piloted by Jerr Johnson and co-piloted by Llo d Fruin. The proiect is being financed by Lee Nash, Presi- dent o arvar University. Leafing through the rest of the paper, I notice that Wa ne Sie mann is designing automobiles for General Motors. Ruth Seyller has her own society column with latest reports on famous fashions. It is time for me to travel on and I leave Hampshire feeling that the Class of 1957 has made some outstanding achievements and that its members are truly successful .
