PRO PHECY The time is 19803 the place is Hampshireopolis. This is it - the end of the trail - the last leg of my journey. Census taking of the Illinois population since 1973 has been my job. This is the last whistle stop. After this, there isn't any more. I'm walking now. What'sthat? Why, I do believe it's some sort of structure. Dare I knock? The electric eye answered my question and the door opened. There stands Ralph and Margee Campbell, stars of stage, screen doors, Hampshire operettas, and the Corn Fetti Pirate TV Show. Not wanting to interrupt their rehearsals, I'm walking, walking, slowly walking away, and finally a mammoth gray shape looms up in front of me - The Evelyn Bicknese Hotel! A colossal structure on the shores of Lake Wholgreen. I bang the knocker and the door slowly creaks open. Yes ? It is Evelyn Bicknese. I ask her for a list of her patrons which she is kind enough to give me. I read the list over and find that many important personal- ities are residing in her impressive healthresort. The list reads ........................... Fred fFredricoQ Bishop: President of the South American F. F.A. from the Asuncion Chaptero. .Ian Godrey: Commercial artist for the magazine Better Homes and Sump Pump-s fpumps that pump sumpj. Wayne Halbmaier: Head sportswriter for the Cookie Press. Lorrie Kellenberger: Vice president and chief designer for the Tatge Tip- less Tables for Tippy Twosomes Company. Donna Jean Holze: Doubling for Clifton Utley on his news reports. Donovan Ross: Rocket engineer for the Rootie Kazootie Space Cadets. Gordon Melms: Great chemist who invents cures for which there aren't any diseases. I Virginia Meyer: Knits strait-jackets for people who lead crooked lives. Patricia Seyller: Head of a chain of bakeries called Pat's Patty Cake Paticakes . Carol Jeanne Thompson: Author of the great sequel to Who's Who? -- What's That? ' Gordon Witt: Dectective in hotel lobby where he can sleep and read Mickey Spillane pocket books. Dorothy Koerner: The lady Harry James. The Young Girl with the Corn. Sidney White: The star basketball center for the Minneapolis Midgets. Sid Widmayer: Instructor of the Genoa School of Ballet. Ann Schneider: Owner of Schneider's Speedy Sandwich Shop. Mary fEz.io Pinzaf Pedersen: Successor to Marguarite Pianna on the Be-Bop Jive Five TV Show. Ruth Weberpal: Leading scorer on the Hampshire all-star cricket team. Mary fEarhartQ Gudeman: First Lady pilot to fly non-stop over Coon Creek. Bettie Herrmann: Crime photographer for the G. A. A. Bulletin Board news. Upon finishing the list of inmates, I thank Mrs. Bicknese for her kind co- operation and now I steal away into the smog. There is one more home to visit. Of course, I am anxious to make my last stop because then I can start all over again. More surprises are in store for me, for the next stop is to be the home of Delores fwollenweberj Schmidgall, a typical housewife with forty-nine servants. Upon beating the tomtom, I begin to grow suspicious as a person, dressed in the apparel of the Chickawaw Indian tribe, opens the door. This can't be the Schmidgall residence! ! Then I am informed that it is the home of heap big Darwin Pfaffinger, forest ranger who keeps busy by starting his own forest fires. Despondently I walk away. My job is done, the prophecy's done and so am I. May these predictions rest in peace because I want to, too. 0 Compliments of Compliments of C. O. WAIDMAN JAY T. MORNING Builder Plumbing and Heating
